Michael Wiesenberg is a technical writer, author, and former poker player.

Career

Wiesenberg played poker professionally for 10 years before becoming a technical writer. [1] He contributed for many years to the original Gambling Times magazine, writing about keno and poker. He had a biweekly column in the original Poker Player for five years and in Pan Player + for two (a defunct magazine for panguingue players). He had a monthly column for three years in Dr. Dobb's Journal, [2] a computer magazine, and a monthly column for two years in A+, a magazine for Apple Computer users. He has contributed articles to PC Publishing, MicroTimes, [3] Gambling Times, InfoWorld, [4] Gaming & Wagering Business, Casino & Sports, and was an occasional contributor of articles to inCider, The San Jose Mercury, The San Francisco Chronicle, Science '84, and Desktop Publishing. He has also constructed crosswords for national crossword puzzle magazines and newspapers. His puzzles appeared monthly for five years in LA Direct, and seven years online at Poker Pages and Puzzle Planet, and has had puzzles in the New York Times. [5] In 2011, he contributed a crossword puzzle to the Los Angeles Times that contained no instances of the letter E. [6] [7] He was also the editor for four years of two newsletters sent twice-monthly through Card Player's website and the content editor of the site. [8]

He wrote the rules and games descriptions sections for online poker cardrooms Full Tilt Poker and Planet Poker.

He also twice won the current tournament format of the WSOP Main Event in 1971 and 1974. He was one of the charter inductees into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1979.

Rake is the scaled commission fee taken by a cardroom operating a poker game. It is generally 2.5% to 10% of the pot in each poker hand, up to a predetermined maximum amount. There are also other non-percentage ways for a casino to take the rake.

Eric Drache is a professional poker player, former cardroom manager and consultant for NBC. Drache is best known for his management contributions to the poker world, and he is also a notable seven-card stud player. He finished second in World Series of Poker stud events in 1973, 1981, and 2009.

Bob Dancer is a video poker expert and gambling author best known for his book Million Dollar Video Poker, which recounts six years of video poker experiences. The book details a six-month period, Sept 2000 to March 2001, when Dancer and his wife parlayed a six thousand dollar bankroll into over one million dollars playing video poker. The cover of the book was a photo taken to replicate the $400,000 winning hand that Dancer's wife Shirley hit, the largest of their 6-month winning period.

John Grochowski is a gambling columnist and author. His weekly newspaper column began at the Chicago Sun-Times and is now syndicated nationally. In 1994, the monthly Las Vegas Advisor reported that Grochowski was the first casino gambling columnist at a major U.S. newspaper. In 2012, he also began a weekly Sun-Times column on baseball sabermetrics, the first of its kind in a daily newspaper.

Jerry L. Patterson is an American writer. He authored several gambling books as well as a gambling newspaper column.

Cereus Poker Network was an online poker network comprising Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet. The site is now insolvent and not processing player withdrawals. Cereus is owned by a private company, Blanca Games. Blanca Games bought all Network assets in August 2010 from Tokwiro Enterprises. The Cereus network was one of the world's ten largest online poker cardrooms prior to losing the majority of its player base in the wake of the April 15, 2011 online poker indictments.

Planet Poker was the first real-money cardroom for playing online poker, operating from 1998 to 2017.
