Michal Samir (born November 14, 1985) is a Czech film director, screenwriter and producer. He made his directorial debut with the 2014 film, Hany . His most recent project is television miniseries Iveta about Czech singer Iveta Bartošová.
He is a graduate of the directing course at Drama Centre London, a school noted for its methodological approach to performance and for producing a host of high-profile actors including Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Paul Bettany and Emilia Clarke.
Following graduation in 2010, he collaborated as actor supervisor on Matěj Chlupáček's debut feature film, Bez doteku (Touchless), which premiered in 2013 to mixed reviews.
In 2014, another collaboration with Chlupáček resulted in Samir's debut feature, Hany, which received universal release in the Czech Republic, despite being made on a budget of only $240,000. The film was widely praised and cemented Samir as an impressive young upstart within Czech cinema. A massive success at international film festivals, Hany went on to win the Oldenburg IFF, Golden Eye IFF Grand Prix and Best Shot along with the Best Camera Award at Czech Film Critics Awards 2014 among others.
In 2015, Samir wrote the screenplay, Polednice (The Noonday Witch), which was picked up by both Barletta Production Company and HBO. As well as writing Polednice, Samir ultimately co-directed the finished film, which will premier in March 2016.
Based in London, Samir is Managing Director of Room One Films, a production company that specialises in feature films, commercials and TV content.

During a career of more than five decades, she has received numerous awards including Meritorious Artist (1978), the Alfréd Radok Award (1996), the Czech Lion Award, the Golden Goblet Award (2008), and a 2010 ELSA award from the Czech Film and Television Academy (2010). Because her younger sister is former diplomat Magdaléna Vášáryová, the daily newspaper iDNES said fans consider her an "Honorary Consul of Czech and Slovak Relations".
Božidara Turzonovová, is a Slovak film and stage actress of Bulgarian origin, often referred to as The First Lady of Slovak Theater and Film.
Orbis Pictus is a 1997 Slovak film, starring Dorota Nvotová, Marián Labuda, Božidara Turzonovová, Július Satinský, Emília Vášáryová and František Kovár. The film, directed by Martin Šulík, won Special Award of the Jury at the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany as the Best Film in 1997. The film was selected as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 70th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Kruté radosti is a 2002 Slovak-Czech comedy, starring Tatiana Pauhofová. The film directed by Juraj Nvota received several awards. Amongst others, at Art Film Fest, Festival of Slovak Film Cran-Gevrier, while Ondřej Vetchý earned an award as the Best Male Actor at the IFF Faces of Love in Moscow, Russia.
Milan Šteindler is a Czech actor, screenwriter, and film director. He is a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He won the Czech Lion Award for Best Director for his 1994 film, Thanks for Every New Morning. He obtained the Silver St. George Award for Directing at the 19th Moscow International Film Festival for the same film.
Iveta Bartošová was a Czech singer, actress and celebrity, three-time best female vocalist in the music poll Zlatý slavík. She was also known for her turbulent lifestyle attracting the attention of the Czech tabloid media.
Michael Hofbauer was a Czech film actor who gained popularity mainly in children's roles. He became popular as Otík in the TV series and films featuring the character of Pan Tau and as Osvald in the film Lucie, postrach ulice. From 1989, he worked in a theatre as a lighting technician while also playing a few minor roles. He suffered from cancer of the neck. In 2006, he underwent surgery, and then he underwent radiation therapy. He died of cancer in 2013.

Petra Hřebíčková is a Czech stage and film actress. Her film debut was in the 2006 comedy I Served the King of England. On stage, she acted for six years at the Zlín City Theatre between 2003 and 2009, during which time she was named the Best Actress in a Play at the 2008 Thalia Awards. Following her Thalia award, she has appeared in television series and films including Kawasaki's Rose (2009) and Men in Hope (2011). Since 2010 she has been a regular member of the theatre at Prague's Švandovo divadlo.
Nightline is a 2022 Czech crime thriller film directed by Robert Sedláček. It stars Karel Roden. Inspired by real events - the motive is a time-barred murder - the film is set in the time of its creation. The screenplay was written by Robert Sedláček, who also directed it. Filming took place in 2020 mainly in Prague at night, and partly in the American Malibu. It is the first film in Czech cinematography that takes place almost in real time. It was presented to journalists on 26 April 2022; the premiere, originally planned for February 2021, took place on April 28 of the following year due to the closure of cinemas due to measures against the coronavirus epidemic.
Occupation is a 2021 Czech comedy drama film directed by Michal Nohejl. In addition to Nohejl, Marek Šindelka and Vojtěch Mašek also participated in the script. The film was based on a story from the period of normalization, when a Russian soldier walks into the theater after the performance among the celebrating actors and the actors have to decide how to deal with the hated occupier.
Iveta is a 2022 Czech biographical miniseries. It is based on life of Czech singer, actress and celebrity Iveta Bartošová. It was directed by director Michal Samir, who also wrote the screenplay.
Restore Point is a 2023 cyberpunk science-fiction thriller film directed by Czech director Robert Hloz in his directorial debut. The film was co-produced by the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Serbia.
To se vysvětlí, soudruzi! is a mystery comedy television series coproduced by Czech Television and ZDF. The series aims to follow on from popular 1980s co-production projects of Czechoslovakia and West Germany Návštěvníci, Létající Čestmír or Arabela. Episode titles refer to comedy films by Václav Vorlíček and Jindřich Polák. The series draws inspiration from real events. Plot itself is inspired by real life Czechoslovak institute that focused on paranormal activity which existed in 1980s. Some media called the series "Czech The X-Files."
