Michelle (stylized in all caps as MICHELLE) is a six-piece indie-pop collective based in New York City. The group consists of Sofia D'Angelo, Julian Kaufman, Charlie Kilgore, Layla Ku, Emma Lee, and Jamee Lockard. [1]

History

2020–2022: Beginnings, HEATWAVE, and AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS

Michelle was originally formed by producers Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore with the plan to release one album dedicated to New York City. After the critical praise of their 2018 debut album HEATWAVE, completed before the members met in person, [3] the group decided to keep on making music together. [4]

In 2020, Michelle released two standalone singles, "SUNRISE" and "UNBOUND". "SUNRISE" came out on July 16, 2020. [5] There were three alternate versions released in the subsequent months: a stripped version, one featuring Arlo Parks, and a remix by the booyah! kids featuring Deem Spencer. [6] "UNBOUND" came out on October 5, 2020 [6] [7] which landed them on NME's 2021 Top 100 emerging artists list. [8] Michelle released another standalone single, "FYO", on January 27, 2021. [9] The group later released a remix with CHAI. [10]

On September 14, 2021, Michelle released their new song, "SYNCOPATE", the first single off their second album. [11] The next day, they announced the title and tracklist of their upcoming album, AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS, set to release on January 28, 2022. [12] The group released the album's second single, "MESS U MADE" on October 27, 2021. [13] The third single, "EXPIRATION DATE" was released on January 5, 2022. [14] Michelle released their fourth single from the album, "POSE", on February 28, 2022. [15] Their second album, AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS, came out on March 4, 2022. [3] [16] On October 18, 2022, Michelle released a new song, "PULSE". [17]

2023–2024: GLOW EP and Songs About You Specifically

In 2023, they released singles "THE PEACH", "GLOW", and "AGNOSTIC", the latter two announced as part of their upcoming GLOWEP. [18] On January 11, 2024, their single "NEVER AGAIN" was released. GLOW EP was released on February 9, 2024.

On June 20, 2024, the group announced the upcoming release of their third album Songs About You Specifically, set to release on September 27, 2024. [19] The lead single "Oontz" was released alongside the album announcement. [19] Second single "Mentos and Coke" was released on July 31 followed by third single "Cathy" on August 29. [20] [21]

At 17, he began to record his own music and released his first album under the name Sandy in 2010. DIY self-releases on Bandcamp and began building up an audience with his label debut, DSU (2014), released on Orchid Tapes to critical acclaim from various publications. Blane Muise, better known by her stage name Shygirl, is an English singer, DJ, rapper, songwriter and co-head/founder of record label and collective Nuxxe. Shygirl's music incorporates elements of dance music, hip-hop, experimental pop, grime and deconstructed club. She has also been associated with the hyperpop music scene. Shygirl rose to prominence after working with close collaborator and friend Sega Bodega, as well as other well-known experimental producers Arca and Sophie, and gaining attention from the likes of Rihanna, who has used various Nuxxe tracks for her Fenty Beauty commercials and fashion shows. Shygirl has released various singles since 2016, and three EPs titled Cruel Practice, Alias and Club Shy. Her debut studio album Nymph was released on 30 September 2022 to widespread acclaim from music critics.

Dry Cleaning are an English post-punk band who formed in South London in 2017. The band is composed of vocalist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard and drummer Nick Buxton. They are noted for their use of spoken word primarily in lieu of sung vocals, as well as their unconventional lyrics. Their musical style has been compared to Wire, Magazine and Joy Division. They have been described as "Annette Peacock fronting the Fall or PiL or Siouxsie and the Banshees".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Matt Maltese</span> English singer-songwriter

Matthew Jonathan Gordon Maltese is a British-Canadian singer-songwriter. His style blends elements from indie pop, indie rock, and chamber pop. Since releasing his debut single "Even If It's a Lie" in 2015, Maltese has released four studio albums, and four EPs. In July 2021, Maltese announced his third studio album, Good Morning It's Now Tomorrow; the album was released in October 2021 via Nettwerk, the label he is currently signed with. Maltese released his fourth studio album, Driving Just to Drive in April 2023.

NewDad are an Irish indie rock band from Galway, formed in 2018. Their music has been compared to The Cure, Beabadoobee, and Just Mustard by NME magazine. Atwood Magazine wrote of the group: "The band oozes personality with cynical but honest lyrics, colorful visual components, and poignant messages about coping with the, albeit painful, formative experiences." The group have appeared at the Green Man Festival in Wales, the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris, and on the Irish television program Other Voices.
