The Michigan Association of Broadcasters represents radio and television broadcasters across the U.S. state of Michigan. It gives out yearly awards to both of these categories, including "Lifetime Achievement", [1] "Hall of Fame", [2] and "Broadcast Excellence Awards." [3]

Ernie Harwell American sportscaster

William Earnest Harwell was an American sportscaster, known for his long career calling play-by-play of Major League Baseball games. For 55 seasons, 42 of them with the Detroit Tigers, Harwell called the action on radio and/or television. In January 2009, the American Sportscasters Association ranked Harwell 16th on its list of Top 50 Sportscasters of All Time.

The Detroit News is one of the two major newspapers in the U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan. The paper began in 1873, when it rented space in the rival Detroit Free Press's building. The News absorbed the Detroit Tribune on February 1, 1919, the Detroit Journal on July 21, 1922, and on November 7, 1960, it bought and closed the faltering Detroit Times. However, it retained the Times' building, which it used as a printing plant until 1975, when a new facility opened in Sterling Heights. The Times building was demolished in 1978. The street in downtown Detroit where the Times building once stood is still called "Times Square." The Evening News Association, owner of The News, merged with Gannett in 1985.

WFDF (AM) Radio station in Farmington Hills, Michigan

WFDF, which brands itself as 910 AM Superstation, is a talk radio-formatted radio station licensed to Farmington Hills, Michigan, serving Metro Detroit. The station is owned and operated by Kevin Adell and provides sports, entertainment news, news updates, local community news, online podcasts, and live streaming content from a Detroit perspective. The station broadcasts in HD, and since 2017 broadcasts its show on Facebook with live video news coverage. WFDF is also broadcast on a subchannel of WADL.

Budd Lynch

Frank Joseph James "Budd" Lynch was the Detroit Red Wings' public address announcer at Joe Louis Arena, a position he held from 1985 to 2012. He began his career in 1949 as the team's radio play-by-play announcer. Lynch had been with the Windsor Spitfires when Red Wings' general manager Jack Adams asked him to call the games for his organization.

WXYT-FM Sports radio station in Detroit

WXYT-FM is a commercial FM radio station in Detroit, Michigan, serving Metro Detroit and much of Southeast Michigan. It airs a sports radio format and is owned by Audacy, Inc. WXYT-FM's studios and offices are located in the nearby suburb of Southfield.

WXYT is a commercial radio station licensed to Detroit, Michigan broadcasting a Sports gambling format. The station serves the Detroit-Windsor market and the Southeastern Michigan and Southwestern Ontario areas. Its transmitter is in Monroe County at Ash Township and operations and studios are at Entercom's facilities in Southfield, Michigan. WXYT is a 50,000–watt, Class B station broadcasting on a regional frequency. It is not a clear-channel station because of its frequency and highly directional antenna.

Ray Lane is an American sportscaster from Detroit, Michigan. During the late 1940s, Ray played baseball and basketball for the Stags of Mackenzie High School. In 1949, he enrolled at Michigan State University and played baseball for the Spartans while earning a bachelor's degree in communications.

Mario Impemba American sportscaster

Mario Impemba is an American sportscaster, best known as the television play-by-play announcer for the Detroit Tigers from 2002 to 2018. Before working for the Tigers, he announced for the Los Angeles Angels on both television and radio and several minor league teams.

Jim Brandstatter American sports announcer

James Patrick Brandstatter is an American sports announcer. He is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Michigan Wolverines football team. He held the position of color commentator for the Detroit Lions for 31 years until the end of the 2017 season. Brandstatter is also a sports television show host and former radio show host; both TV and radio shows about Michigan football. He played college football for the Wolverines, from 1969 to 1972, where he was a standout offensive tackle. Brandstatter has written two non-fiction books about UM experiences, both of which were best-sellers in the sports category. His other positions include the two-time president of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. Brandstatter leaving the Detroit Lions radio broadcast was announced on July 10, 2018.

Tim Brooks is an American television and radio historian, author and retired television executive. He is credited with having helped launch the Sci Fi Channel in 1992 as well as other USA Network projects and channels.

John Rakolta American political activist

John Rakolta Jr served as the United States Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2019 to 2021. He is the former CEO of Walbridge, a full-service construction company headquartered in Detroit. He was also one of the National Finance Chairs for Mitt Romney's 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.

Richard H. Bernstein is an American lawyer and Michigan Supreme Court Justice. He practiced at The Law Offices of Sam Bernstein in Farmington Hills, Michigan, before being elected to the Michigan Supreme Court. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan and served on the Wayne State University Board of Governors for one eight-year term, including two years as vice chair and two more as chair until deciding not to seek re-election in 2010 for a second term beginning in 2011. In November 2014, Bernstein was elected to serve an 8-year term on the Michigan Supreme Court. Bernstein has been classified as legally blind since birth as a result of retinitis pigmentosa.

Mary Barra American businesswoman

Mary Teresa Barra is an American businesswoman who has been the chair and chief executive officer (CEO) of General Motors since January 15, 2014. She is the first female CEO of a 'Big Three' automaker. In December 2013, GM named her to succeed Daniel Akerson as CEO. Prior to being named CEO, Barra was executive vice president of global product development, purchasing, and supply chain.

2018 Michigan gubernatorial election American state election

The 2018 Michigan gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next Governor of Michigan, concurrently with the election of Michigan's Class I U.S. Senate seat, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections.

Janeé L. Ayers is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. In 2015, Ayers was appointed to Detroit City Council as an at large member after the resignation of Saunteel Jenkins, and elected for the remainder of the term on November 8, 2016. She was reelected to City Council for a full four-year term on November 7, 2017. Ayers was defeated in the November 2021 City Council general election.

Horace Sheffield III is an American pastor and media personality. As of 2018 he resides in Detroit, Michigan, where he is an on-air radio personality for 1200 AM/WCHB, as the host of On The Line and an on-air television personality for Channel 38/WADL, as the host of Real Talk Weekly. Sheffield is also the Pastor of New Destiny Christian Fellowship, which has churches in Detroit and Brooklyn, New York.

Frances Alvord Harris was the first female newscaster in Michigan. Harris was the National President of the Association for Women in Communications and she chaired the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in Service.
