Michael Lewis (15 February 1965 – 5 March 2021) [2] was an English professional footballer and manager who played for West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Oxford United. From October 1999 to February 2000 and then again from January to March 2014 he was the caretaker manager at League Two side Oxford United [3] following the departure of manager Chris Wilder to Northampton Town, [4] before Gary Waddock was appointed head coach. [5]

He left Oxford in the middle of 2015 after a 27-year association with the club, and 8 years as a member of the coaching staff, [6] and was appointed head coach/manager at Hayes & Yeading United in May 2016 after the departure of Garry Haylock. [7] He stepped down as first-team manager in October 2016. [8]

Death

Lewis died on 5 March 2021, aged 56, shortly after being diagnosed with lung cancer. [2]

The 2013–14 Football League was the 115th season of The Football League. It began on 3 August 2013 and concluded on 3 May 2014, with the promotion play-off finals at Wembley Stadium on 24–26 May 2014. The Football League is contested through three Divisions. The divisions are the Championship, League One and League Two. The 2013–14 Football League Two is the tenth season of the league under its current title and nineteenth season under its current league division format. The season began on 3 August 2013 and finished on 3 May 2014 with all matches that day kicking off simultaneously.

The 2013–14 season was Oxford United's fourth season in League Two after returning from the Conference. They finished 8th in the League, one place better than the previous season but again failing to secure a play-off place after a promising start.

The 2016–17 EFL League One was the 13th season of the Football League One under its current title and the 24th season under its current league division format. The fixtures were announced on 22 June 2016.

The 2017–18 English Football League was the 119th season of the English Football League and was the second under its current name. It began on 4 August 2017 and concluded on 6 May 2018, with the promotion play-off finals at Wembley Stadium on 26–28 May 2018. The EFL is contested through three divisions. The divisions are the Championship, League One and League Two. The winner and the runner up of the Championship will be automatically promoted to the Premier League and they will be joined by the winner of the Championship playoff. The bottom two teams in League Two will be relegated to the National League.
