Midas was an English indie band based in Stourbridge and Birmingham, England. It was formed in 2003.
The band consisted of Kris Lloyd (vocals/guitar), Rich Lloyd (synth/vocoder), Jake Mason (bass guitar/vocals), Dave Mason (drums) and Lee Scott (guitar). Mason joined the band after Dave Smyth's departure due to study commitments in October 2007. Smyth himself joined the band in November 2006.
Most of their gigs are played at venues in the West Midlands, although in 2007 several gigs were played at clubs in London and in north-west towns and cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and Blackpool. The band played abroad for the first time in Italy during late 2007, playing a number of dates at a festival in Venice.
Midas' first single, "Don't Dance", was released on 19 March 2007. It sold 2,007 copies, reaching number 59 in the UK Singles Chart, [1] number three in the UK Indie Chart and number 25 in the Official UK Physical Sales Chart. Additionally, the band reached number one in music store Fopp's sales chart, which led to an in-store performance being arranged at their flagship Tottenham Court Road store in London on 29 March 2007. [2] The song was produced by Gavin Monaghan, also known for his work with Editors, Scott Matthews and The Twang.
"Red Shoes" is the second single by Midas, released on 20 August 2007 on the band's own record label, Plastic Tank, which is distributed by Cargo. It was recorded at Outhouse Studios in Reading with John Mitchell (Enter Shikari) and engineered by Ben Humphreys.
The single was disqualified from the UK Singles Chart. A message was posted on the band's Myspace page saying, "We were informed at 12:51 yesterday by the Official UK Chart Company (OCC) that they will not be including 'Red Shoes' in the singles chart this Sunday. We were shocked to receive this news, as neither the OCC nor our retail partners (7digital and Tunetribe) had previously made us aware of any issues with the sales of this single, and the single had registered on the midweek charts at number 16 on Tuesday. The OCC stated they believed some of the sales of this single were not eligible for the chart, and consequently had exercised their discretional right to discount all sales from the chart this week. The OCC have as yet refused to disclose any evidence to support their claims, and have not given us sufficient time to properly appeal against their decision. We are therefore sad to announce that it seems that we have to accept that the sales of our single will now not be used for the purposes of the chart. We apologise to all our fans who have supported us in good faith and purchased our music. You have done nothing wrong. We are bitterly disappointed that we have not been given the time to prove this to the OCC."
The band has been particularly supported by Kerrang! Radio. Loz Guest (specialist shows producer) played Midas' earlier material on the Unsigned show before the release of "Don't Dance". The breakfast DJ, Ugly Phil, had the band on his show for features, including the "Wrong Songs Grand Final" and "Challenge Rachel". Other DJs to champion the band on air include Sean Coleman and Jim Coulson. The band has also appeared on Tim Shaw's Asylum.
On 12 February 2007, the band appeared on the Janice Long show on BBC Radio 2, performing a live acoustic set of three songs. Long placed "Don't Dance" on her playlist.
Their second single, "Red Shoes", achieved even greater exposure, with support and airplay from XFM London's Steve Harris and Ian Camfield.
Paul Kramer, publisher of Hit Sheet magazine, featured "Don't Dance" in issue No. 95.
On 11 March 2009, the band posted a blog on its MySpace page to say that they were each going into different directions, and were no more. Speculation on the band's problems in gaining support from major and independent labels has been discussed on internet forums. The decision was taken after the then touring line-up decided not to continue with touring and to concentrate on other ventures.

Madness are an English ska and pop band from Camden Town, north west London, who formed in 1976. One of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s two-tone ska revival, they continue to perform with six of the seven members of their original line-up. Madness's most successful period was from 1980 to 1986, when the band's songs spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, holding the record along with English reggae group UB40 for most weeks spent by a group in the UK singles chart during the 1980s.
Busted are an English pop-punk band from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, consisting of James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson. Formed in 2000, the band has had four UK number-one singles, won two Brit Awards, released four studio albums and sold over 5 million records worldwide. The band released the albums Busted in 2002 and A Present for Everyone in 2003 before disbanding in January 2005.
McFly are an English pop rock/pop band formed in London in 2003. The band took their name from the Back to the Future character Marty McFly. The band consists of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd (drums). They were signed to Island Records from their 2004 launch until December 2007, before creating their own label, Super Records.
James are an English rock band from Manchester, formed in 1982. They achieved popularity during the 1990s, with four top-10 hits on the UK Singles Chart and nine top-10 placings on the UK Albums Chart. The band's best-known singles include "Come Home", "Sit Down", "She's a Star" and "Laid". "Laid" also became a hit on American college radio. Following the departure of lead singer Tim Booth in 2001, the band became inactive, but members reunited in January 2007 and have since released a further seven albums. Live performance has continually remained a central part of the band's output. As of 2010, the band had sold more than 25 million albums worldwide.
Rogue Traders is an Australian electronic rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 2002 by mainstay James Ash on keyboards. In 1989, Ash met fellow original member Steve Davis in London while both were working as DJs. Before forming Rogue Traders, the pair had worked together on many projects, including the dance music act Union State, which relocated to Melbourne in 1992. The group's name comes from the 1999 drama film, Rogue Trader. They were joined in 2004 by soap opera actress, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, on lead vocals, Cameron McGlinchey on drums and Tim Henwood on guitar. Davis continued as a behind-the-scenes member, contributing to the songwriting process but not making any public appearances with the group.
David Thomas Mason is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic, and went on to play and record with many notable pop and rock musicians, including Paul McCartney, George Harrison, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Steve Winwood, Fleetwood Mac, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, and Cass Elliot.
David Sneddon is a Scottish singer, songwriter, musician and music producer of contemporary pop music. He began his career performing on stage and television, singing lead roles in stage musicals in Glasgow. In 2002, he won the first series of BBC One music competition Fame Academy. He released his first single "Stop Living the Lie" in 2003 which was a UK number one hit single selling over 250,000 copies, making it Britain's twelfth-highest selling single of 2003. Sneddon's debut album Seven Years – Ten Weeks was released in April 2003 and reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart. He achieved three more UK Singles Chart singles – "Don't Let Go", "Best of Order", and "Baby Get Higher". His song "Baby Get Higher" was a hit on the dance floor for Almighty Records and a chart hit for VanVelzen in 2006, and also for Emin Agalarov.
Hard-Fi is an English indie rock band, formed in 2003 in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey. The band consists of Richard Archer, Ross Phillips, Kai Stephens and Steve Kemp.

The band rose to prominence in the US during the new wave era with their single "Whip It". Scouting for Girls are an English pop rock band. Their name is a play on the title of the 1908 Scouting handbook Scouting for Boys. The band was formed in 2005 by three childhood friends from London, Roy Stride on piano and lead guitar/vocals, Greg Churchouse on bass guitar and Pete Ellard on drums. They signed to Epic Records in 2007 and released their self-titled debut album that September and it reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart in 2008. To date, it has sold over 1 million copies in the UK.
Blood Red Shoes are an English alternative rock duo from Brighton consisting of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell. They have released six full-length albums, Box of Secrets (2008), Fire Like This (2010), In Time to Voices (2012), Blood Red Shoes (2014), Get Tragic (2019) and Ghosts on Tape (2022) as well as several EPs and a number of singles. In 2014, they founded their own label, Jazz Life.
"Clothes Off!!" is the fifth single from Gym Class Heroes' third album, As Cruel as School Children. It features vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. It was released in June 2007, and peaked at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. Outside of the United States, "Clothes Off" peaked within the top ten of the charts in Finland, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? are a British dance-punk band from Reading, Berkshire. They played what was to be their final show on 12 December 2015 at the Electric Ballroom, Camden Town. In September 2021, they announced a new album, titled We Do Our Own Stunts.
The Saturdays are an English-Irish girl group based in London, England. The group formed during the summer of 2007 and has been on hiatus since 2014. The lineup consists of Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, and Vanessa White. They were formed through Fascination Records, a sub-division of Polydor Records, which gave them an instant record deal with the label. As soon as the contract was finalized, the Saturdays went on tour with Girls Aloud during their Tangled Up Tour. The group's music style is pop, but throughout their career, their management has experimented with dance-pop and electropop. Songwriters and producers Ina Wroldsen, Steve Mac, Camille Purcell, and Quiz & Larossi have helped create their music. In July 2008, The Saturdays released their debut single and first Top Ten hit, "If This Is Love". Their debut album, Chasing Lights, released the same year, charted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart; it was certified platinum by the BPI and produced three more top ten singles: "Up", "Issues", and "Just Can't Get Enough". "Work" was also released from the album. The group's first concert tour, The Work Tour, took place in 2009. The group's second album, Wordshaker, produced the Top Ten hits "Forever Is Over" and "Ego". In 2010, the Saturdays released a mini album, Headlines!, which contained the top 10 hits "Missing You" and "Higher", the latter of which featured guest vocals from Flo Rida. The mini-album was supported by the group's second concert tour, The Headlines Tour. Their third album, On Your Radar, was released in 2011 and resulted in two top 10 singles: "Notorious" and "All Fired Up".
Innerpartysystem is an American electronic rock band. The group consists of Patrick Nissley, Jared Piccone and Kris Barman. The band is well known for their live performance lighting largely by Andrew Nissley and videos directed by Stephen Penta.
Waiting for Daylight is the fourth studio album by British–Norwegian boy band, A1. The album was released on 11 October 2010, and was the band's first release of new material for more than eight years. It is also the first album to be released since the departure of Paul Marazzi from the band. It was originally released in Norway only, but was released on iTunes in 2015 for the UK and the rest of the world. The album peaked at number five on the Norwegian Albums Chart.
