The Midtown Farmers Market is a seasonal open-air farmers market in the Midtown area of south Minneapolis. Established in 2003, the market is held Saturdays from May through October, and Tuesdays from June through October in a parking lot in the Corcoran neighborhood. The market is a project of the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization, and is known for a selection of locally produced and organic fare. All of the products sold at the market are grown or produced in Minnesota or Wisconsin by the individual vendors. At the peak of the season, the Saturday market hosts over 70 vendors and draws over 60,000 shoppers each season. [1]
In addition to the usual cash, shoppers can also pay using credit cards or EBT (food stamp) cards. Customers wishing to use these alternative forms of payment use credit card processing machines at a central booth to buy wooden tokens, which can be spent as cash throughout the market. The Midtown Farmers Market was the first in Minnesota to offer an EBT payment option. [2]
The mission of the Midtown Farmers Market is to create a vibrant forum in south Minneapolis that connects community residents and nearby rural food producers in a mutually beneficial economic and cultural exchange. [3]
Since 2003, the Midtown Farmers Market (MFM) has connected locally produced food and goods with 40,000 customers per season at 2225 East Lake Street on a surface parking lot owned by Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). [4] The Midtown Farmers Market was conceived by local residents and is operated by the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization (CNO). The Midtown Farmers Market was a key element of the Corcoran Midtown Revival Plan. The MFM currently operates one day a week from May to June, and two days a week from June through October. [5]
The market site offers parking and bicycle racks. The Lake Street Station of the METRO Blue Line is immediately adjacent to the market site, and several Metro Transit bus routes stop near the site. [6]
The market was awarded the title of "Best Farmers Market" by City Pages in 2004. [7]
The Midtown Farmers Market was a key element of the Corcoran Midtown Revival Plan, which called for a mix of housing, retail/office, structured/underground parking, and public open space. This citizen-generated Plan was adopted by the City Council as part of the Minneapolis Plan in 2002.
Given development pressures and the pending sale of the 6 1⁄2-acre site by the school district, residents look forward to the opportunity to realize the Plan and create a permanent home for the Midtown Farmers Market at 2225 East Lake on a public square, plaza, or mall shared within a larger mixed-use, transit oriented development adjacent to the Lake Street LRT station, with nearby connections to the Midtown Greenway bikeway, bus transit, and a proposed Midtown Greenway trolley line. The Midtown Farmers Market is secure at 2225 East Lake Street—its home of 7 seasons—and will be part of the future redevelopment of the site. This was the message from Mark Bollinger, executive director of facilities for Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), when he attended the April 19, 2010, meeting of Corcoran's Land Use and Transportation and Housing committees. MPS owns the building and 6-1/2-acre site and is currently preparing a request for proposals (RFP) for its sale and redevelopment. [9]

Robert Lilligren is an American politician and member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. He was an elected member of the Minneapolis City Council. He was first elected in 2001, to represent the 8th Ward of the Minneapolis City Council. Following the defeat of Green Party member Dean Zimmermann, during the 2005 municipal elections, Lilligren represented the 6th Ward of the City of Minneapolis. When first elected to office, Lilligren was serving as a volunteer on eight different community boards and commissions including: vice-chair of Phillips West Neighborhood organization, the Midtown Greenway Coalition, the Hennepin County-appointed I-35W Project Advisory Committee, and as a board member for several affordable housing groups throughout South Minneapolis. He lost his re-election bid in 2013 to Abdi Warsame.
The Minneapolis Streetcar System is a proposed streetcar system for the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Extensive studies and plans for the new system were completed in 2007 and presented to the Minneapolis City Council in January 2008; on April 2, 2010, the Council voted to approve the plans and seek funding. On December 21, 2010 the Federal Transit Administration granted $900,000 to further study the Nicollet and Central Avenue corridors.
The Kenilworth Trail is a paved bicycle trail in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It runs nearly 1.5 miles (2.4 km) and acts as a connector between the Cedar Lake Trail in the north and the Midtown Greenway in the south. Like the Cedar Lake Trail, most of the route is composed of a triple-divided cycleway/pedway with a pair of one-way paths for bicycles and another path for pedestrians. On some maps, a southern segment of the Kenilworth Trail is called the Burnham Trail. The trail corridor has been considered the most highly trafficked in the Minneapolis park system.
Little Sugar Creek Greenway is a linear park and stream restoration project in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. When completed it will consist of twenty miles of trails and paved walkways running from Cordelia Park just north of uptown Charlotte, then south through midtown Charlotte, and continuing all the way to the South Carolina state line. Min Hi Line is a proposed linear park and shared-use path that would eventually re-purpose an active rail and agri-industrial corridor in the Longfellow community of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Modeled after successful projects like the Atlanta Beltline and New York High Line, it would feature an approximately 3-mile (4.8 km), shared-use pathway that traverses housing, retail, commercial buildings, gardens, playgrounds, and public art installments. Two pilot projects completed in 2018 and 2019 connect the Min Hi Line corridor to trail systems at its northern and southern ends.
