Miguel Gomez [1] (also known as Aztek Escobar; [2] born August 20, 1985) is a Colombian-American actor and rapper. [3] Escobar was the first artist officially signed to Jay-Z's Roc-La-Familia label.[ citation needed ] From 2021 to 2022, he starred as Ivan Ortiz on CBS crime drama series FBI: Most Wanted .

Biography

Miguel Gomez was born in Cali, Colombia, he went to Clements High School (Sugar Land, TX), graduating in 2003. He played a small role in the music video for Soul Survivor by rapper Young Jeezy in 2005.

Gomez made his television debut in the Miami episode of the FX comedy series Louie . He got his big break in 2014 when he landed the role of Augustin "Gus" Elizalde on the FX horror drama television series The Strain . He first became known to film audiences for his prominent role in the 2015 boxing drama Southpaw.

Before acting, he rapped under the name Aztek Escobar and was the first artist signed by Jay Z's Roc-La-Familia label. His debut album was to be named Colombian Necktie but the label was dissolved before the album was released.

The Dynasty: Roc-La-Familia is the fifth studio album by American rapper Jay-Z, featuring prominent appearances from signees of Roc-A-Fella Records. It was released on October 31, 2000, by Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. Its lead single, "I Just Wanna Love U ", produced by the Neptunes, was one of Jay-Z's most successful singles peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 with 557,789 copies sold in its first week. The album is certified 2× Platinum by the RIAA. Roc-La-Familia was an American record label founded by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter. This sub-label focused on signing international artists, including reggaeton artists, much like Bad Boy Latino. "OG" Juan Perez was appointed the president of the label Robert Castillo EVP and Cipha Sounds was the senior vice president of A&R. Roc-La-Familia was an extension of Roc-A-Fella Records and headquartered in New York City. Roc-La-Familia featured a broad array of artists encompassing such musical genres as Latin hip hop, reggae, reggaeton, pop, rock and more. The first signee to the label was Houston based rapper Aztek Escobar. The only albums released from the label came from famed artists Héctor el Father, Dimitri el Boss, N.O.R.E.. All Money Is Legal, also known as A.M.I.L.: , is the only studio album by American rapper Amil. It was released on August 29, 2000, through Roc-A-Fella, Columbia, and Sony Music. Jay-Z, Damon Dash, and Amil served as executive producer with a team of producers that included Just Blaze. Before the album's release, Amil was best known for her feature on Jay-Z's 1998 single "Can I Get A...". Southpaw is a 2015 American sports drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by Kurt Sutter and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker and Rachel McAdams. The film follows a boxer who sets out to get his life back on track after losing his wife in an accident and later his young daughter to child protective services. The film was released on July 24, 2015, by The Weinstein Company. The film received mixed reviews from critics, while Gyllenhaal and Oona Laurence's performances received positive reviews.
