Miha Fontaine (born January 3, 2004) is a Canadian freestyle skier who competes internationally in the aerials discipline. [1] [2] He is the son of former Aerials world champion Nicolas Fontaine. [3]

Career

Fontaine joined the national team in 2019. [1] In early 2022, along with fellow aerialist Émile Nadeau, Fontaine started to introduce more complex tricks into his routines to improve and consistency in his placements. [4] This led to a sixth-place finish at the Deer Valley stop of the World Cup. [5] [6]

Winter Olympics medalist

On January 24, 2022 Fontaine was named to Canada's 2022 Olympic team. [7] [8] At the games, Fontaine was a part of Canada's bronze medal winning mixed aerials team. [9] [10] [11]

The mixed team aerials competition in freestyle skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 10 February, at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou. This was the first time a mixed team short freestyle skiing event is featured at the Olympics. The United States team, represented by Ashley Caldwell, Christopher Lillis, and Justin Schoenefeld, won the event. Strate also notably ranked 23rd in the Women's Normal Hill Individual event, with a total of 161.9 points. In her free time, Strate enjoys spending time outside by mountain biking, beekeeping, gardening, and caring for her chickens.
