Michael Boynton Jr. (born January 17, 1982) is an American basketball coach, currently an assistant coach at the University of Michigan. Previously he was the head coach at Oklahoma State University from 2017 to 2024. [1]
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Boynton led his high school basketball team at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School to the city semifinals and earned first team All-New York City honors by averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 11.0 assists per game. [2]
While a player for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks from 2000 to 2004, Boynton made 129 three-pointers in 125 career games, finishing in the top ten in three-pointers made and fourth in career games played with the Gamecocks. Boynton and the Gamecocks made the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Boynton finished his playing career at South Carolina with a degree in African-American Studies. [3]
Boynton's post-playing basketball career began as a graduate manager at Furman in 2004–05. He then moved on to be an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University from 2005 to 2007 before moving to Wofford College (South Carolina) for the 2007–08 season as associate head coach. Boynton returned to Columbia for the 2008–09 season as an assistant coach and stayed until 2013. Boynton moved with fellow assistant Brad Underwood when the latter became the head coach at Stephen F. Austin State University, commencing with the 2013–14 season. [4] When Underwood accepted the head coaching position at Oklahoma State, Boynton moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to serve as an assistant coach.
On March 24, 2017, Boynton was named the 20th head coach of the Oklahoma State University men's basketball team following Underwood's departure for Illinois. [5]

Boynton is married to Jenny Boynton. [6] They have one son and one daughter. Boynton also has three older sisters. [7] Boynton is a Christian. [8]
Edward Eugene Sutton was an American college basketball coach. A native of Bucklin, Kansas, Sutton played college basketball at Oklahoma A&M and was a head coach at the high school, junior college, and college levels spanning six decades.
Henry Payne “Hank” Iba was an American basketball coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College, now known as Northwest Missouri State University, from 1929 to 1933; the University of Colorado Boulder from 1933 to 1934; and the Oklahoma State University–Stillwater, known as Oklahoma A&M prior to 1957, from 1934 to 1970, compiling a career college basketball coaching record of 751–340. He led Oklahoma A&M to consecutive NCAA basketball tournament titles, in 1945 and 1946.
Felton Jeffrey Capel III is an American college basketball coach and former player who is currently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Pittsburgh. He played for Duke University and was a head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Oklahoma.
Sean Patrick Sutton is an American college basketball coach who last served as an advisor for Texas Tech. Sutton served as the head men's basketball coach Oklahoma State University–Stillwater from 2006 to 2008. As a college player and coach, Sutton has been part of over 400 victories, with 391 coming as a coach. As of April 2012, Sean has 39 wins as a head coach at Oklahoma State and 352 as an assistant coach at Mississippi, Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts. In 22 seasons, Sutton has played or coached in 23 NCAA Tournament victories. Oklahoma State advanced to the Final Four in 1995 and 2004 while Sutton was an assistant coach. Also, in 22 seasons as a player or coach, Sutton's teams have participated in postseason play 19 times.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Oklahoma State University, located in Stillwater. The program's mascot is a cowboy named Pistol Pete. Darrin McKinley Horn is an American college basketball head coach at Northern Kentucky, having previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Texas and a head coach for the Division I (NCAA) programs at Western Kentucky University and at the University of South Carolina.
The South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball team represents the University of South Carolina and competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Gamecocks won Southern Conference titles in 1927, 1933, 1934, and 1945, and then they gained national attention under hall of fame coach Frank McGuire, posting a 205–65 record from 1967 to 1976, which included the 1970 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship, the 1971 ACC Tournament title, and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 1971 to 1974. The program also won the 1997 SEC championship, National Invitation Tournament (NIT) titles in 2005 and 2006, and a share of the 2009 SEC East division title. Oklahoma State men’s basketball has a very rich history of success, having won more national titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship, Final Four, Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen more times than any other school in the state of Oklahoma. The 2016–17 Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team represented Oklahoma State University in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by first-head coach Brad Underwood. The Cowboys were members of the Big 12 Conference and played their home games at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They finished the season 20–13, 9–9 in Big 12 play to finish in fifth place. They lost to Iowa State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest region where they lost to Michigan in the first round.
The 1984 Gator Bowl game was a post-season college football bowl game between the #7 South Carolina Gamecocks and the #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys. It was the 40th edition of the bowl game. This was the first meeting of two top ten teams in the Gator Bowl with the 1987 Gator Bowl being the only other such occasion when #9 South Carolina lost to #7 LSU.

They finished the season 21–15, 8–10 in Big 12 play to finish in a four-way tie for sixth place. They defeated Oklahoma in the first round of the Big 12 tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Kansas. They were invited to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Florida Gulf Coast and Stanford before losing in the quarterfinals to Western Kentucky.

Randy Rutherford is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player. Rutherford had a three-year college career with Oklahoma State, where as a senior in 1995 he helped the Cowboys make their first Final Four appearance in 45 years. He went on to play professionally in Spain, Finland, Cyprus and Australia. With the Brisbane Bullets in Australia, he led the league in scoring and earned All-NBL Second Team honors in 2002.
Shell Dailey is a basketball coach at IMG Academy. Before joining IMG, Dailey played on the Texas Longhorns women's basketball team during the 1980s before working in retail from 1986 to 1992. Dailey began her basketball coaching career with the TCU Horned Frogs women's basketball in 1992 as an assistant coach. After her promotion to head coach in 1993, her team competed at the Southwest Conference women's basketball tournament three times. Dailey had 8 wins and 72 losses with TCU before being replaced by Mike Petersen in 1996.

The season marked the Gamecocks' 128th overall season, and 30th as a member of the SEC East Division.
