Michael W. Brown (born April 29, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey winger. In his seven-year career, he played for the Vancouver Canucks, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Early life

Born in Surrey, British Columbia, Brown played five years of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Red Deer Rebels and Kamloops Blazers.

Career

Brown was drafted 20th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. [1] He made his professional debut with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL) in the 1999–2000 season. His NHL debut came when he appeared in a single game for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2000–01 season. He would play 15 more games with the Canucks in the 2001–02 season.

Brown joined the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 2002–03 season, during which he scored his only NHL goal. He then appeared in two games with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2005–06 season before retiring.

Brown became the general manager of Barnes Harley-Davidson in Langley.

The 1994–95 Chicago Blackhawks season was the Hawks' 69th season. It was the Blackhawks' first season at United Center, which replaced Chicago Stadium as their home venue. The Hawks ended the regular season on a high note, winning their final five games. They tied the Detroit Red Wings for most power play goals (52) and had the best power play in the league (24.53%). They also allowed the fewest goals (115) and the fewest even-strength goals (76) during the regular season. It was an inconsistent season for the team, as they had three 5-game winning streaks and one 13-game winless streak from March 29 to April 23. Within their winless streak, they lost 8 games in a row. Points-leader Bernie Nicholls had 3 hat tricks, including two four-goal games. Nicholls' three-goal game came on March 21 in a 7-3 Blackhawks' win at San Jose.

The 1997–98 Vancouver Canucks season was the team's 28th season in the National Hockey League (NHL). After missing the playoffs the season before, the team responded by signing Mark Messier to a three-year contract. The signing of Messier did little to improve the team, however, as they finished even worse than the year before, costing Head Coach Tom Renney and General Manager Pat Quinn their jobs. For the first time in NHL history, regular season games were played outside of North America, with the Canucks playing the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in Tokyo, Japan, to open up the regular season. Pavel Bure became the last Canuck to score 50 or more goals in a season. On April 9, 1998, the Canucks scored three short-handed goals in a 6–3 road win over the Calgary Flames.

The 1997–98 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim season was the fifth season in franchise history. The Ducks finished sixth in the Pacific and missed the playoffs.
