Mike Hastings (born February 3, 1966) is an American ice hockey coach at the collegiate level. Since 2023, he has been the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team. He was head coach of the Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team from 2012 to 2023.

Career

Hastings was the head coach of the Omaha/River City Lancers from 1994 to 2008 where he was twice named the USHL Coach of the Year (1996–97 and 2001–02)^[1] and five times was named the USHL General Manager of the Year (1997, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2008).^[2]

After a successful 14-year run in the USHL Hastings returned to the college ranks, joining the staff at Minnesota as an assistant for a year before becoming an associate head coach at Nebraska–Omaha. After three years with the Mavericks Hastings accepted the head coaching position at Minnesota State. When Hastings arrived in Mankato the program had only one winning season in the previous nine years and he immediately turned the program around. In his first year the team doubled their win total, going 24–14–3 and making the second NCAA tournament appearance since joining Division I in 1996.^[3] The team improved in each of the next two seasons, winning the WCHA tournament both years and was the #1 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

In the 2021 Tournament, Hastings and Minnesota State won 2 games on their way to the Frozen Four. Hastings' 5 consecutive 20+ win seasons to start his career led to Minnesota State giving him a 10-year contract extension in the spring of 2017.^[4]

On March 30, 2023, it was announced that Hastings had been hired as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team, replacing Tony Granato after seven seasons.

He was previously the head coach of the St. Cloud State Huskies from 2005 to 2018. During his time at SCSU, he was named the WCHA Coach of the Year in 2006 and again in 2007.

Mark Anthony Osiecki is an American ice hockey coach and former professional ice hockey player. Osiecki was the head coach of the Ohio State University ice hockey team from the 2010–11 season to the 2012–13 season. Osiecki played 93 games in the NHL for the Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota North Stars. Osiecki was drafted by the Flames in the 9th round, 187th overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.

The Omaha Mavericks men's ice hockey team, also called the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks and UNO Mavericks, is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Nebraska Omaha. The Mavericks are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). They play home games at Baxter Arena, an on-campus facility that opened in 2015. The Mavericks hockey program was started in 1997; the team has qualified for the NCAA tournament on four occasions, in 2006, 2011, 2015, and 2021. During the 2015 tournament, the team made their first appearance in the tournament semifinals, branded by the NCAA as the Frozen Four. The Mavericks competed in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) between 1999 and 2010 before joining the WCHA for the 2010–11 season. More than 600 students participate each year in athletics for the university. James Johannson was an American ice hockey player, coach and executive. He played for the United States national junior team at the World Juniors in 1983 and 1984, then played for the United States national team at the Winter Olympics in 1988 and 1992, the Ice Hockey World Championships in 1992, and was captain of the silver medal-winning team at the 1990 Goodwill Games. He played 374 games in the International Hockey League (IHL) after being selected by the Hartford Whalers in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He won the Turner Cup as the IHL playoffs champion with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1988, then again with the Indianapolis Ice in 1990. He played 264 consecutive games spanning three seasons by 1991, and received the Ironman Award from the IHL in recognition of his durability. As an amateur, he played for the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey program and won the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship in 1983. Frank Serratore is an American ice hockey coach, currently with the Air Force Falcons men's ice hockey team. He formerly coached professional hockey in the International Hockey League with the Minnesota Moose from 1994 to 1996.

The 1976–77 Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in college ice hockey. In its tenth year under head coach Bob Johnson, the team compiled a 37–7–1 record and outscored all opponents 264 to 161. The Badgers received the WCHA's automatic bid to the 1977 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament by winning the 1977 WCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament, the only singular WCHA tournament champion over a 16-year period. They defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats in the Frozen Four semifinals and then beat WCHA- and Big Ten-rival Michigan Wolverines by a 6–5 score in overtime to win the national championship in Detroit, Michigan.

Luke Strand is the current head ice hockey coach of the Minnesota State men's ice hockey team.
