Michael K. Jones (born October 16, 1973) is an American college basketball coach, currently serving as head coach for the Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team. [1] Prior to Old Dominion, Jones served as an assistant coach for the Maryland Terrapins and associate head coach for the Virginia Tech Hokies following 19 seasons as head coach at DeMatha Catholic High School.
Jones played high school basketball at DeMatha before graduating and enrolling at Old Dominion University. Jones played at ODU from 1991–95 and earned All-CAA honors as a senior. [2] Jones scored 19 points in ODU's triple overtime upset win over No. 3 seed Villanova in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament. [3] Jones' 168 career three-pointers are sixth most in Monarch history. He scored 1,166 career points in 111 games played. [2]
After graduating from ODU, Jones played professionally in Portugal, Hong Kong, Finland and the Dominican Republic. [4]
Jones broke into coaching when he joined hall of fame coach Morgan Wootten's staff at DeMatha in 1999. He replaced Wootten as Head Coach in 2002. [5] Jones led the Stags to nine Washington Catholic Athletic Conference regular-season championships, eight WCAC tournament championships and a national championship in 2006 while compiling a 511–119 record. [6] Jones coached at least 6 future NBA players at DeMatha, including Markelle Fultz and Jerian Grant. [7] DeMatha named their court in honor of Jones in 2023. [8]
While at DeMatha, Jones also worked extensively with USA Basketball serving on the coaching staff of 22 various national teams including leading the US U16 national team to a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 championships. [9]
Jones left DeMatha in 2021 to take role as the associate head coach for Virginia Tech under Mike Young. Young valued Jones' ability to recruit the D.C. area. After two seasons, Jones left Virginia Tech to become an assistant coach for Kevin Willard's staff at the University of Maryland. [7] After one season at Maryland, Jones was hired as Head Coach at his alma mater, Old Dominion. [2]

Morgan Bayard Wootten was an American high school basketball coach for 46 seasons at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He led the Stags to five national championships and 33 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) titles. In 2000, he was the third high school coach to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the first high school only coach to be inducted.
Michael Paul Brey is an American basketball coach. Currently an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association, he was previously the men's head basketball coach at the University of Notre Dame. Brey served as the coach for 23 seasons from his hiring in 2000 until his resignation at the end of the 2022–23 season.

Jeffrey Allen Jones is an American former college basketball player and coach. He was a four-year starter for the Virginia Cavaliers, helping his team to win an NIT title and reach the NCAA Final Four. He became an assistant coach and eventually the head coach at his alma mater, with a tenure of eight years; he then coached the American Eagles for thirteen years; and the Old Dominion Monarchs for eleven years. In total, Jones was a head coach for thirty-two years, amassing a 560–417 (.573) overall record and a winning record with each of his three programs, reaching the NCAA Tournament at each stop—including an Elite Eight run with Virginia in 1995.
Dereck Whittenburg is an American basketball coach and former collegiate basketball player who played for North Carolina State University, where he was a member of the 1982–83 team that won the 1983 NCAA National Championship. He is currently employed by the athletic department at his alma mater, with his official title being Associate Athletic Director for Community Relations and Student Support.

The 2016–17 Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team represented Old Dominion University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Monarchs, led by fourth-year head coach Jeff Jones, played their home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 19–12, 12–6 in C-USA play to finish in a tie for third place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament to Marshall. Despite finishing with 19 wins, they did not participate in a postseason tournament.
The 2017–18 Old Dominion Monarchs men’s basketball team represented Old Dominion University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Monarchs, led by fifth-year head coach Jeff Jones, played their home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 25–7, 15–3 in C-USA play to finish in second place. They defeated Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament before losing to Western Kentucky in the semifinals. Despite winning 25 games on the season, the Monarchs did not participate in a postseason tournament.
The 2018–19 Old Dominion Monarchs men’s basketball team represented Old Dominion University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Monarchs, led by sixth-year head coach Jeff Jones, played their home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia as members of Conference USA (C-USA). They finished the season 26–9, 13–5 to finish in 1st place. In the C-USA tournament, they defeated Louisiana Tech, UAB and Western Kentucky to win the C-USA tournament. As a result, they received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Purdue.
