Jonas Hayes (born August 9, 1981) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Georgia State. [1] He previously served as an assistant coach, and later interim head coach, for the Xavier Musketeers. He was also an assistant coach for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, South Carolina State Bulldogs, Belmont Abbey Crusaders, and Georgia Bulldogs. Hayes played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts and Georgia Bulldogs.
Hayes and his twin brother, Jarvis, initially enrolled at Western Carolina University in 1999 to play for the Western Carolina Catamounts. In his freshman season, Hayes averaged 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game on an average of 18.4 minutes. He shot 63.0% from field goal range and 51.2% from the free throw line. His field goal percentage was the highest in the Southern Conference and the 12th-highest at the NCAA Division I level. Hayes played in 24 games and started one game at Western Carolina. The brothers initially remained there for one season before transferring to the University of Georgia in 2000.
Hayes had to sit out his sophomore season due to a former transfer rule. In his junior season, Hayes averaged 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game on an average of 20.9 minutes. He shot 55.5% from field goal range and 71.4% from the free throw line. That year, he helped the Bulldogs to the NCAA Division I Tournament and had 14 points and 14 rebounds in the team's first-round win over Murray State. [2] In his senior season, Hayes averaged 6.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game on average of 21.1 minutes. He shot 52.8% from field goal range and 61.4% from the free throw line. In his fifth-year season, Hayes averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game on an average of 28.4 minutes. He shot 51.2% from field goal range and 65.7% from the free throw line. [3] He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in child and family development. [4]
Following the end of his collegiate playing career, Hayes spent one season as an assistant coach at Frederick Douglass High School (Atl). One year later he was hired by Morehouse College to be an assistant coach for the men's basketball team in 2005. He remained with the team for one season before being hired as an assistant for the South Carolina State Bulldogs. In 2007, Belmont Abbey College hired Hayes as an assistant, a post he remained at until 2012.
In 2012, Hayes returned to his alma mater as an operations coordinator for the men's basketball team. In 2013, he was promoted to the role of assistant coach. In his first three seasons as an assistant on Mark Fox's staff, the Bulldogs won 20 or more games, making an NCAA Tournament and two NIT Tournament appearances. Hayes is credited with aiding the development of forwards like Marcus Thornton and Yante Maten. [5] He remained with Georgia until Fox's firing in 2018.
In 2018, Hayes was hired as an assistant coach for the Xavier Musketeers. In 2021, he was promoted to the role of associate head coach. Following the firing of Travis Steele at the end of the 2021–22 regular season, Hayes was named the team's interim head coach. He led the Musketeers to the school's second-ever NIT championship. On April 6, 2022 Hayes was announced as the head coach of Georgia State. [8]

Hayes's twin brother, Jarvis, was born five minutes ahead of him and is a former National Basketball Association player and current assistant coach for his brother at GSU.
Jarvis James Hayes is an American-Qatari college basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for the Georgia State Panthers and is a former professional player. Hayes was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 10th overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft.
Hugh Nelson Durham is a retired American basketball coach. He was head coach at Florida State, Georgia, and Jacksonville. He is the only head coach to have led two different programs to their first Final Four appearances.
Thad Michael Matta is an American college basketball coach who is currently in his second stint as head coach of the Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team, having been head coach of the Bulldogs for the 2000–01 season. From 2004 to 2017, Matta led the Ohio State Buckeyes to five Big Ten Conference regular season championships, four Big Ten tournament titles, two Final Four appearances, and the 2008 NIT Championship. Tyrone Kennedy Corbin is an American former basketball player who last worked as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets. He was first appointed the assistant coach of the Phoenix Suns, then was named the Utah Jazz’s head coach, on February 10, 2011, following the resignation of longtime coach Jerry Sloan. He was also the brief interim head coach of the Sacramento Kings in the 2014–15 season before being replaced by George Karl. Prior to that, Corbin played 16 seasons in the NBA.
Sean Edward Miller is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as head coach of the Xavier Musketeers. He previously held that position from 2004 to 2009, after which he took the head coach position at the Arizona Wildcats, which he held until being fired in 2021.
The Georgia Bulldogs men's basketball program is the men's college basketball team representing the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Established in 1891, the team has competed in the Southeastern Conference since its inception in 1932. As of 2020 the Bulldogs have amassed a record of 1,434–1,319. Though it has been historically overshadowed by the school's football program, the Bulldogs' basketball squad has had its share of successes, including a trip to the NCAA Final Four in 1983 under head coach Hugh Durham.

The 2004–05 Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team represented Georgetown University in the 2004–05 NCAA Division I college basketball season. The Hoyas were coached by John Thompson III – his first year at Georgetown – and played their home games at the MCI Center in Washington, DC. The Hoyas are members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 19–13, 8–8 in Big East play. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2005 Big East men's basketball tournament before losing to Connecticut They played in the 2005 National Invitation Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to South Carolina.
The 1977–78 Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team represented Georgetown University during the 1977–78 NCAA Division I college basketball season. John Thompson, coached them in his sixth season as head coach. An independent, Georgetown played its home games at McDonough Gymnasium on the Georgetown campus in Washington, D.C., and finished the season with a record of 23-8. Knocked out of the ECAC South-Upstate Region tournament in the semifinals, the team missed an NCAA tournament bid for the second consecutive season. The Hoyas instead appeared in the 1978 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), their second straight NIT appearance, and finished in fourth place.

They were led by 11th year head coach John Thompson III, were members of the Big East Conference, and played their home games at the Verizon Center. They finished the season 22–11, 12–6 in Big East play to finish in a tie for second place. They advanced to the semifinals of the Big East tournament where they lost to Xavier. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated Eastern Washington in the second round before losing in the third round to Utah.
The 2015–16 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team represented the University of Alabama in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Crimson Tide played its home games at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as a member of the Southeastern Conference. Avery Johnson was in his inaugural season as head coach of the team. He was hired on April 6, 2015, to replace Anthony Grant, who was fired on March 15 after serving as Alabama's head coach for six seasons. The team finished the season 18–15, 8–10 in SEC play to finish in 10th place. They defeated Ole Miss in the second round of the SEC tournament to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Kentucky. The Crimson Tide received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament as a #5 seed, where the team lost to Creighton in the first round.

Zach Hankins is an American professional basketball player who plays for U-BT Cluj-Napoca of the Liga Nationala. He played college basketball for the Xavier Musketeers his senior season. As a power forward/center, Hankins was named the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year for the 2017–18 season while playing for Ferris State.
Keith Larnell Gatlin is an American basketball coach and former professional player who is an assistant coach for the High Point Panthers. He was one of the best players of the high school class of 1983, and committed to play college basketball for the Maryland Terrapins. After three seasons, Gatlin sat out one year during the 1986–87 season for academic reasons; he came back for his senior year in 1987–88. His 649 assists rank 3rd all-time for Maryland. After graduating from college, he went on to play professional basketball for 13 years, mainly in Europe: he led the German Bundesliga in scoring in the 1997–98 season and was named an All-Star in Greece, Germany, and France. After a 9-year experience as head coach of Wesleyan Christian Academy he was named assistant coach at High Point University.

Led by fourth-year head coach Travis Steele for the first 32 games and interim head coach Jonas Hayes for the final four games, they played their home games at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Musketeers finished the season 23–13, 8–11 in Big East play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They lost in the first round of the Big East tournament to Butler. The team received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Cleveland State, Florida, Vanderbilt, and St. Bonaventure to advance to the championship game. There they defeated Texas A&M to win the NIT championship.

Led by Sean Miller in the first season of his second stint after coaching the Musketeers from 2004 to 2009, they played their home games at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Musketeers finished the season 23–8, 15–5 in Big East play to finish in second place. In the Big East tournament, they defeated DePaul and Creighton to reach the championship game, where they were defeated by Marquette. The team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Kennesaw State and Pittsburgh to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2017. There they were defeated by Texas, bringing their season to a close with a final record of 27–10.
