Blaine Taylor (born January 14, 1958) is a former American college basketball coach most well known for being the head coach of the Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team from 2001 until 2013.
Taylor played as a point guard for the University of Montana from 1979 to 1981. In 1981, he was recognized as the school's most outstanding male athlete and earned the Naseby Rhinehart Award as the Most Inspirational Player. [1] Taylor later became an assistant coach at Montana while a graduate student from 1981 to 1984 and again became an assistant to Stew Morrill from 1986 to 1991. He was promoted to head coach of the Grizzlies in 1991 and led the team to two NCAA tournament appearances through 1998. Taylor became an assistant coach under former Grizzly coach Mike Montgomery at Stanford University from 1998 to 2001. The Cardinal were invited to the NCAA tournament during every year of Taylor's tenure, reaching the Elite Eight in the 2001 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. [1]
During his tenure at Old Dominion, Taylor has led the Monarchs to CAA Tournament championships in 2005, 2010, and 2011 and appearances in the NCAA tournament in 2005, 2007, 2010, and 2011. The Monarchs lost in their first NCAA tournament game on three of Taylor's trips, but broke through with a first round victory over Notre Dame in 2010 before losing to Baylor in the second round. [1] Taylor also led the Monarchs to the 2006 NIT semifinals, where the team lost to the Michigan Wolverines. The Monarchs also won the inaugural CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament in 2009. On February 5, 2013, Taylor was fired by Old Dominion in the middle of a 2–20 season. [2] In the summer of 2016, it was announced that Taylor was hired by Russell Turner, head coach of UC Irvine as an assistant. The two had both worked as assistants at Stanford. [3] After stepping down from UC Irvine to have ankle and knee replacement surgery, Taylor returned to Old Dominion to work as fundraiser for the university's athletic foundation. [4]

Michael John Montgomery is a retired American basketball coach. He is best known for his 18-year tenure at Stanford (1986–2004), where he led the program to 12 NCAA Tournaments, including a Final Four appearance in 1998. Montgomery previously served as head coach at the Montana (1978–1986). Following his time at Stanford, he coached the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for two seasons (2004–2006) before ending his career at the University of California (2008–2014). He announced his retirement from coaching following the 2013–14 season.

Jeffrey Allen Jones is an American former college basketball player and coach. He was a four-year starter for the Virginia Cavaliers, helping his team to win an NIT title and reach the NCAA Final Four. He became an assistant coach and eventually the head coach at his alma mater, with a tenure of eight years; he then coached the American Eagles for thirteen years; and the Old Dominion Monarchs for eleven years. In total, Jones was a head coach for thirty-two years, amassing a 560–417 (.573) overall record and a winning record with each of his three programs, reaching the NCAA Tournament at each stop—including an Elite Eight run with Virginia in 1995.

The 2009–10 Old Dominion Monarchs basketball team represented Old Dominion University in the 2009–10 college basketball season. This was head coach Blaine Taylor's ninth season at Old Dominion. The Monarchs compete in the Colonial Athletic Association and played their home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. They finished the season 27–9, 15–3 in CAA play to win the regulars season championship. They also won the 2010 CAA men's basketball tournament to earn the CAA's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. They earned an 11 seed in the South Region where they upset 6 seed Notre Dame in the first round before losing to 3 seed and AP #19 Baylor in the second round.

The Monarchs, led by 10th year head coach Blaine Taylor, played their home games at Ted Constant Convocation Center and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. They finished the season 27–7, 14–4 in CAA play and were champions of the 2011 CAA men's basketball tournament to earn an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament where they lost in the second round to Butler.

The Monarchs, led by 11th year head coach Blaine Taylor, played their home games at Ted Constant Convocation Center, with one home game during the CIT at Norfolk Scope Arena, and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. They finished the season 22–14, 13–5 in CAA play to finish in fourth place. They lost in the semifinals of the CAA Basketball tournament to Drexel. They were invited the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they defeated Coastal Carolina in the first round and USC Upstate in the second round before falling in the quarterfinals to Mercer.

The Monarchs, led by 12th year head coach Blaine Taylor, played their home games at Ted Constant Convocation Center and were members of the Colonial Athletic Association. This was their final season as a member of the CAA as they will join Conference USA in July 2013. As a result of the conference change, the Monarchs were not eligible to participate in the 2013 CAA men's basketball tournament.

The 2015–16 Old Dominion Monarchs men’s basketball team represented Old Dominion University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Monarchs, led by third year head coach Jeff Jones, played their home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 25–13, 12–6 in C-USA play to finish in a three way tie for third place. They defeated Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, and WKU to advance to the championship game of the C-USA tournament where they lost to Middle Tennessee. The received an invitation to the inaugural Vegas 16, which only had eight teams, where they defeated Tennessee Tech, UC Santa Barbara, and Oakland to become Vegas 16 champions.

Playing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and led by eighth-year head coach Blaine Taylor, the Monarchs finished the season with a 25–10 overall record and won the 2009 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament – the first year of the tournament's existence.

Playing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and led by sixth-year head coach Blaine Taylor, the Monarchs finished the season with a 24–9 overall record. After finishing second in the CAA regular season standings, Old Dominion fell in the semifinal round of the CAA Tournament but still secured an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Playing as the No. 12 seed in the Midwest region, ODU lost to No. 5 seed Butler in the opening round.

After finishing first in the CAA regular season standings, Old Dominion won the CAA Tournament to secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Playing as the No. 12 seed in the Minneapolis region, ODU lost to No. 5 seed and eventual Final Four participant Michigan State in the opening round.
The 2012–13 CAA men's basketball season marked the 28th season of Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball, taking place between November 2012 and March 2013. Practices commenced in October 2012, and the season ended with the 2013 CAA men's basketball tournament.
