Sherman Dillard (born September 1, 1955) is a former American basketball player and current coach. He was a head men's basketball coach at Indiana State University and at James Madison as well as an assistant at Maryland, California and Georgia Tech. [1] Currently, he is an assistant basketball coach at the University of Iowa. Prior to being hired at Iowa in May 2010, he was a basketball representative for Nike.

Dillard was the sixth round pick in the 1978 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers.

He resigned his position at Indiana State in order to replace Lefty Driesell at his alma mater, James Madison University. He had previously worked as an assistant coach for Lefty at the University of Maryland in the early 1980s.

Charles Grice "Lefty" Driesell is a retired American college basketball coach. He was the first coach to win more than 100 games at four different NCAA Division I schools, Driesell led the programs of Davidson College, the University of Maryland, James Madison University, and Georgia State University. He earned a reputation as "the greatest program builder in the history of basketball." At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was the fourth-winningest NCAA Division I men's basketball college coach, with 21 seasons of 20 or more wins, and 21 conference or conference tournament titles. The 1981 NCAA Division I basketball tournament involved 48 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 12, 1981, and ended with the championship game on March 30 in Philadelphia. A total of 48 games were played, including a national third-place game. It was also the last tournament to be televised on NBC, before CBS took over the following year. Additionally, it was the last season in which the NCAA sponsored championships only in men's sports; the first Division I women's tournament would be played the following year.

Steven Lamarr Hood is an American former professional basketball player born in Lynchburg, Virginia. In high school Hood starred for DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, from 1983 to 1986 and was selected as a 1986 McDonald's All-American. He then received an athletic scholarship to play for the Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team. After two seasons, Hood transferred to James Madison University (JMU) to play for coach Lefty Driesell, who recruited Hood from high school. Driesell was the coach at Maryland when he recruited Hood but left the summer before Hood went to play at UMD.

The James Madison Dukes men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball program representing James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The school, a member of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, joined the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2022 after having been a member of the Colonial Athletic Association since that league's establishment in 1979. The Dukes are led by head coach Mark Byington. The Dukes play their home games at the on-campus Atlantic Union Bank Center which seats 8,500 fans and opened in November 2020.
