Mike Reyes is a Filipino basketball coach currently coaching Southwestern University Cobras in the CESAFI. He is the brother of PBA champion coach Chot Reyes. [1] [2] [3]

Career

Early days

Reyes coached the Ateneo Blue Eaglets in the junior's division of the UAAP until 1998. After his high school stint, Reyes coached the Iloilo Megavoltz in the Metropolitan Basketball Association. [1]

He became an assistant coach to Chot at Pop Cola Panthers (2000 to 2001), and on its successor team Coca-Cola Tigers (2002 to 2005), [3] specified for the role of video coordinator. [4]

Cebu collegiate league

He later coached the University of San Carlos Carolinians, when he led the team to two consecutive finals appearance in 2006, and 2007, but both lost to the University of the Visayas Green Lancers. [2] [5]

He became an assistant coach and athletic director of Southwestern University Cobras in 2012, [2] [6] and later promoted to head coach in 2016. He led the Cobras into winning the 2019 CESAFI basketball finals. [3] [7]

He was also a former member of the Philippines' national basketball team during the 1980s and 1990s. He also played for the University of San Jose–Recoletos in Cebu City. He had also a stint with the Ateneo de Manila. He is known by the nicknames "Jolas", "Mr. Clutch", "The 4th Quarter Man", and "PBA Jordan" for his deadly perimeter shooting.

Frederick "Derrick" S. Pumaren, better known on his nickname Manong Derrick, is a Filipino basketball coach who was recently the coach of the De La Salle Green Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). He coached several teams in the UAAP, PBA, and PBL.

The role of active consultant, or simply consultant, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is the highest coaching role a foreign citizen could normally get in the top-flight professional basketball league due to the head coach role being restricted to Filipino citizens. This is due to a Court of Appeals ruling secured by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines in 2002 barring non-resident foreigners from the head coach's role in the PBA. The NBTC Coaches Convention is one of the programs under the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC).
