The Pittsburgh Penguins are a professional ice hockey team based in Pittsburgh. The Penguins compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference, and have played their home games at PPG Paints Arena, originally known as Consol Energy Center, since 2010. The team previously played at the Civic Arena, which was also known as Mellon Arena from 1999 to 2010, and by its nickname "the Igloo". The Penguins are affiliated with two minor league teams – the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
Mike Lange is a retired American sportscaster, best known for his long career as a play-by-play announcer for Pittsburgh Penguins hockey. In 2001, he received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for his outstanding work as an NHL broadcaster.
Michael Barry Sullivan is an American professional ice hockey coach and former player who is the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the fourth round, 69th overall, by the New York Rangers in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Sullivan has also played for the San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Phoenix Coyotes. Internationally, he represented the United States twice, including at the 1997 World Championship.

The rest of his career, which lasted from 1992 to 2007, was spent in the minor leagues and then in Europe. Patterson is currently the head coach of the Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Douglas Allen Brown is an American former professional ice hockey right winger. He played in the National Hockey League with the New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings between 1987 and 2001. With Detroit he won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1997 and 1998. Internationally he played for the American national team at four World Championships and the 1991 Canada Cup.
Gregory Curtis Brown is an American ice hockey coach and a former professional player, most notably for the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is currently the head coach of the Boston College Eagles, an NCAA Division I team competing in Hockey East. Previously, Brown was a member of the Eagles coaching staff for fourteen years from 2004–2018, serving as an assistant coach under Jerry York and later alongside him as associate head coach. He also coached under David Quinn with the New York Rangers from 2018–2021 and served as the head coach for the Dubuque Fighting Saints for the 2021–22 USHL season.
Henry "Hank, Red" Bassen was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1954 and 1968. He was the father of Bob Bassen, who played 765 regular-season games in the NHL.
Frank Pietrangelo is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played 141 games in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Hartford Whalers between 1987 and 1994. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991. After his playing career he became involved in leadership and ownership of the Niagara Falls Canucks of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Tyler Kennedy is a Canadian-American former professional ice hockey centre who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils. He was selected by the Penguins in the fourth round, 99th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The 1995–96 Pittsburgh Penguins season saw the return of Mario Lemieux after missing an entire season due to injuries. The Penguins improved to first in the Northeast Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference. In the 1996 Stanley Cup playoffs, the Penguins progressed to the Conference Finals before losing to the Florida Panthers.
Thomas Patrick O'Regan is an American former professional ice hockey forward. He played 61 games in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1984 to 1985. He then played in the German Bundesliga and Deutsche Eishockey Liga from 1987 to 1998. Internationally O'Regan played for the American national team at four World Championships.
Kenneth Priestlay is a Canadian former ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League with the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1986 and 1992. With the Penguins he won the Stanley Cup in 1992. Priestlay also spent several years playing in the British Hockey League and Ice Hockey Superleague before retiring in 1999, though he briefly played again in 2002–03.
The 1999–2000 Pittsburgh Penguins season was the team's 33rd in the National Hockey League. It was the first season under ownership led by former superstar Mario Lemieux.
