Mikey Walsh (born 22 September 1980) [1] is a British writer and columnist.

Biography

Walsh was brought up to be a bare-knuckle fighter in the Romany community, but being gay, he was forced to leave his family and culture in 1996. [2]

Walsh's earliest interview was for BBC Radio 4's The Choice with Michael Buerk where he spoke about his life and what brought him to have to leave his culture. [3] [4] In 2014 and 2015, Walsh was added to The Independent's Rainbow List of the most influential British LGBT people. [5] [6]

Books

Gypsy Boy (2010) [7] [8] [9] was Walsh's debut autobiography and a UK best-seller. [10] It was published by Hodder & Stoughton UK and St. Martin's Press USA.

Gypsy Boy: On the Run (2011) [11] [12] [13] was Walsh's second autobiography and sequel to Gypsy Boy, also a UK best-seller. [14] It was published by Hodder & Stoughton UK and St. Martin's Press USA.

Film

The film adaptation of Walsh's first book, Gypsy Boy, was in development, [15] with the screenplay adapted by James Graham. [16] X+Y director Morgan Matthews was set to direct, [17] [18] and Benedict Cumberbatch was set to play Walsh's Father. [19] [20]

LGBT

Walsh was filmed for the first time to share his coming out story for The Albert Kennedy Trust's winter appeal. [21] [22] [23]

Walsh has been featured in Attitude's [24] "Gay Role Models" issue, [25] and has written various guest columns for Gay Times . [26] [27] [28] [29] [30] [31]

Michael Duncan Buerk is a British journalist and newsreader. He presented BBC News from 1973 to 2002 and has been the host of BBC Radio 4's The Moral Maze since 1990. He was also the presenter of BBC One's docudrama 999 from 1992 to 2003. From 2017, Buerk also presented the TV programme Royal Recipes which ran for two series.

The Stonewall Awards was an annual event held by the British charity Stonewall to recognise people who have affected the lives of British lesbian, gay, bi and trans people. The event was first held in 2006 at the Royal Academy of Arts and from 2007 was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum. It was held for the final time, with '...of the Decade' categories, in 2015.
