Milena Magdalena Olszewska (born 21 May 1984 [1] ) is a Polish Paralympic archer.

She has won two Paralympic bronze medals.

Biography

Milena Olszewska was born with underdevelopment of her right leg, and at the age of 15 the leg was amputated. [2] She completed her pedagogical studies at the State Higher Vocational School in Gorzow Wielkopolski [1] and was employed in the office of the Gorzów Disability Sport "Start". [2]

In 2007 she began training in archery, trained by Alicja Bukańska and coached by Ryszard Bukański. [2] In 2009 she debuted at the World Para-Archery Championships, occupying 5th place in the team. [3] In 2012 she made her debut at the Summer Paralympics in London, winning a bronze medal in the individual standing competition. [4]

In 2013 she won the world championship in the slalom (with Piotr Sawicki), in the same competition she took third place individually. [1] [4] In 2013, she was ranked as the world's first disabled archer. [1] In 2014 and 2016 she won the European Championship, in the same event she occupied second and third place respectively in the individual tournament. [4] In 2016, at the Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Milena won an individual bronze medal in the recurve (in open play this time). [4]

She was decorated with Brown (2013) and Silver (2016) Cross of Merit (2013). [5] [6]

Deepika Kumari is an Indian professional archer. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women's individual recurve event. She won individual gold in two of the three stages of the World Cup—one in Guatemala and another in Paris. In the process she also reclaimed the number one ranking after nine years at the Paris World Cup. Deepika won individual gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1. She defeated Mexico by 5–1 in the final to win the gold in Paris.

Irene Cuesta Cobo is a Spanish archer and archery coach. She won the Spanish national championship in 2011 and 2013. She has also served as the coach of the Spain national team at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.

Archery at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held between 10 and 17 September 2016 at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí in the Maracana zone of Rio de Janeiro, and consisted of nine events. Pooja Khanna is India's first ever Paralympic Archery player. She debuted at the 2016 Rio Paralympics at the age of 25 and was the only archer from India among all 19 athletes sent to the Games. She secured a fifth-place in the final Paralympic Qualifier which secured India's spot in the 2016 Olympics under World Quota Recurve Women Open in the Czech Republic 2016. Her Olympics journey ended at Round 32 after she failed to defeat Poland's Milena Olszewska by 2–6. She was able to secure a rank of 29 out of the 32 archers participating.
