The Mills Ministry was the ministry of the ninth Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Terry Mills. It came into operation on 4 September, following the election of the Mills Country Liberal government in the 2012 election. [1] Terry Mills and Robyn Lambley were sworn in as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively on 29 August 2012.

The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory is the head of government of the Northern Territory. The office is the equivalent of a State Premier. When the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly was created in 1974, the head of government was officially known as Majority Leader. This title was used in the first parliament (1974–1977) and the first eighteen months of the second. When self-government was granted the Northern Territory in 1978, the title of the head of government became Chief Minister.

Terence Kennedy Mills is an Australian politician who was Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from 2012 to 2013. He served as a Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014, representing the electorate of Blain. He also led the Country Liberal Party in opposition from 2003 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2012 prior to his victory in the 2012 election. Mills served less than seven months as Chief Minister before being ousted by Adam Giles in March 2013 in a vote of his party's parliamentary caucus. The 2014 Blain by-election followed his parliamentary resignation.

2012 Northern Territory general election

The Northern Territory general election was held on Saturday 25 August 2012, which elected all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. The 11-year Labor Party government led by Chief Minister Paul Henderson was defeated in their attempt to win a fourth term against the opposition Country Liberal Party led by opposition leader Terry Mills with a swing of four seats, losing the normally safe Labor remote seats of Arafura, Arnhem, Daly and Stuart, whilst retaining their urban seats picked up at the 2001 election.

A reshuffle took place on 6 March 2013 following the resignation of Robyn Lambley as Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer, and the expulsion from cabinet of Dave Tollner after a heated disagreement with Mills. [2]

Robyn Jane Lambley is a former Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory. She was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly representing the division of Araluen for the Country Liberal Party in a 2010 by-election following the resignation of Jodeen Carney.

David William Tollner is an Australian politician. He was the Country Liberal Party member for Solomon in the Australian House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007, and then served in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly as the member for Fong Lim from 2008 to 2016. He was the Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory under chief minister Adam Giles from 2013 to 2014.

On 12 March 2013, Mills was replaced as Chief Minister by Adam Giles.

Adam Graham Giles is an Australian former politician and former Chief Minister of the Northern Territory (2013–2016) as well as the former leader of the Country Liberal Party (CLP) in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. Giles was the first head of government in Australia to have Indigenous Australian ancestry.

The Country Liberal Party (CLP), officially the Country Liberals , is a liberal conservative political party in Australia founded in 1974, which operates solely in the Northern Territory.

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory is the only house of the Parliament of the Northern Territory, Australia. The Legislative Assembly has 25 members, each elected for single-member electorates. The voting method changed in February 2016 from full-preferential voting to optional preferential voting. Parliament of the Northern Territory

The Parliament of the Northern Territory is the unicameral legislature of the Northern Territory of Australia. It consists of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and the Administrator of the Northern Territory, who represents the Governor-General. It is one of three unicameral parliaments in Australia, along with those of Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory. The Legislative Assembly replaced the previous Legislative Council in 1974. It sits in Parliament House, Darwin.

Peter Chandler (politician) Australian politician

Peter Glen Chandler is an Australian politician. He was a Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, and held the seat of Brennan from 2008 to 2016. He was Deputy Chief Minister from 2014 to 2015 and a minister under both Terry Mills and Adam Giles. He lost his seat at the 2016 general election. Chandler lives in Palmerston with his wife, Robyn, and four children.

Kezia Dorcas Tibisay Purick is an Australian politician. She is an independent member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, having held her seat of Goyder since the 2008 election. Prior to entering Parliament, Purick was the CEO of the NT Minerals Council for 16 years. Originally elected as a member of the Country Liberal Party, she became an independent in 2015.

Willem Rudolf Westra van Holthe is an Australian politician. He was a Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2016, representing the electorate of Katherine. He was Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from 6–14 March 2013 and from February 2015 to February 2016, resuming the position following a leadership challenge to Chief Minister Adam Giles, in which he was briefly the Chief Minister-designate. He served as Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries, Minister for Land Resource Management and Minister for Essential Services (2012–2016), Minister for Mines and Energy (2012–2015) and Minister for Public Employment (2015–2016) under both Terry Mills and Giles.

2016 Northern Territory general election election in Australia

The 2016 Northern Territory general election was held on Saturday 27 August 2016 to elect all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament.

Lia Emele Finocchiaro is an Australian politician. She has been a Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for the seat of Spillett since her election in 2016. She is also the deputy leader of the CLP, and hence Deputy Leader of the Opposition.

The Giles Ministry was the ministry of the tenth Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Adam Giles. It came into operation on 14 March 2013, following the replacement of Terry Mills as Chief Minister and leader of the Country Liberal Party by Adam Giles. It ended on 31 August 2016, when Labor leader Michael Gunner became Chief Minister following his victory at the 2016 election.

A leadership spill of the Country Liberal Party in the Northern Territory occurred 2–3 February 2015.

The Gunner Ministry is the ministry of the eleventh Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Michael Gunner. It came into operation on 31 August 2016.

2020 Northern Territory general election

The next Northern Territory general election, which is scheduled for 22 August 2020, will elect members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. All 25 seats in the Legislative Assembly whose current members were elected at the 2016 election will become vacant. Members are elected through optional preferential instant-runoff voting in single-member electorates. The election will be conducted by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission, an independent body answerable to Parliament. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party (ALP) majority government, led by Chief Minister Michael Gunner will attempt to win a second term of government, and will be challenged by the centre-right Country Liberal Party (CLP) opposition, led by Opposition Leader Gary Higgins.
