The Northern Territory Minister for Health is a Minister of the Crown in the Government of the Northern Territory of Australia. The minister administers their portfolio through the Department of Health. [1]

Contents

The Minister is responsible for adult guardianship, alcohol and other drug services, alcohol management plans, alcohol policy, alcohol treatment and rehabilitation, community service complaints, food standards, health (including hospital and medical services), health complaints, human quarantine, mental health services, morgues, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) implementation, services to the aged, services to the disabled, sexual assault services, university medical education and research and water quality. They are also responsible for the Menzies School of Health Research, the Health and Community Services Complaints Commission and the Public Guardian. [1]

The current minister is Natasha Fyles (Labor). She was sworn in on 12 September 2016 following the Labor victory at the 2016 election. [1]

She was also the first Indigenous woman to be elected to the Northern Territory legislature.

She previously served as 22nd attorney-general of the Northern Territory and the territory’s minister for Justice from 2016 to 2020.

The Martin Ministry was the ministry of the seventh Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Clare Martin. It was sworn in on 27 August 2001 after Martin's victory 2001 election. In addition to Martin as the first ever female Chief Minister, it also included the first ever indigenous minister in Jack Ah Kit. Martin served until November 2007, when she was succeeded by her deputy, Paul Henderson.
