Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda (born 5 December 1970) [1] [2] is a Ugandan politician. She became Minister of the Presidency in the Cabinet of Uganda under President Yoweri Museveni in June 2021. [3] She is reportedly one of the president's most influential ministers. [4] In September 2023, she received an award from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) for her contribution towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in Uganda. [5]

Background and education

She was born in Nalinaibi village in Kamuli district to Sosani Magunda and Namuwaya Ruth. [2] [6] She sat her Primary Leaving Examinations(PLE) in 1985 and joined Busoga High School for secondary education.After completing Senior Four in 1989 where she did not perform well,she became a village political mobilizer for politicians from her sub-county like the Rt Honorable Rebecca Kadaga. [1] She went back to school and re-sat Senior Four in 2017 and then sat for her A'level in 2019 due to the need for academic qualifications for being a Senior Presidential Advisor. [7] [8]

Political career

She was appointed the Deputy RDC Busia in 2014 by the President of Uganda.She later became the Assistant Head of the NRM National Chairman's office at Mbuya headed by Honorable Molly Nawe Kamukama. After the 2016 national elections,the President appointed her as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and head of the NRM National Chairman's office where she served up until her current position. [1]

Personal life

Babalanda is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and her husband, Samuel Babalanda, is a pastor. [2] [6] They have two biological children. [6]

John Mwesigwa Robin Nagenda was a Ugandan writer, political figure, and sportsman. In the 1960s, he pioneered post-colonial English literature in East Africa. He subsequently became a senior advisor to President Yoweri Museveni and a prominent newspaper columnist. Mariam Najjemba Mbabaali, formerly known as Rosemary Najjemba Muyinda is a Ugandan politician. She served as the State Minister for Urban Planning in the Ugandan Cabinet from 15 August 2012, until 6 June 2016, when she was dropped from cabinet. In the cabinet, she replaced Justine Lumumba Kasule, who was appointed Government Chief Whip. Najjemba served as the elected Member of Parliament for Gomba County, Gomba District on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party ticket, for two consecutive terms, from 2006 until 2016.

She is also the current president for the Uganda Netball Federation, a position she assumed in 2021 and serving up to 2025.
