The Ministry of Urban Development is the Sri Lankan government ministry responsible for planning and implementation of Economic social and physical development of the areas declared by the Minister-in-charge of the subject of Urban development. The ministry was established by an Act of parliament bearing No 41 of 1978. The Urban Development Authority is executively functioning under this ministry that is responsible for empowering to function as the key urban planning and implementing agency of the country. [1]

The Urban Development Authority was established by Junius R. Jayewardene on 1978 under Act of Parliament bearing No 41 with a perspective to advance incorporated arranging and execution of Economic social and physical improvement of the ranges pronounced by responsible Minister-in-charge of the Urban Development. Local government is the third and lowest level of government in Sri Lanka – after the central government and provincial councils. The local government bodies are collectively known as local authorities. They are responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. Local authorities are divided into three different groups: municipal councils, urban councils and divisional councils. As of November 2017, there were 341 local authorities. All local authorities are elected using the mixed electoral system.

The Ministry of Highways, Ports and Shipping was a Sri Lankan government ministry responsible for the governance, implementation, creation and development of Ports including Colombo, Galle and Trincomalee ports, Highways including Southern expressway, Colombo Outer Circular expressway, Katunayake expressway and their transport services. It was reorganized as two separate ministries, the Ministry of Ports and Shipping and Ministry of Higher Education and Highways following the formation of the Sirisena cabinet in January 2015.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board is the National Organization responsible for the provision of safe drinking water and facilitating the provision of sanitation to the people in Sri Lanka. The organization had its beginning as a sub department under the Public Works Department for water supply and drainage. In 1965, it became a division under the Ministry of Local Government. From 1970, this division functioned as a separate department under the Ministry of Irrigation, Power and Highways and remained so until the present board was established in January 1975 by an act of Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities (MoHUUC) is responsible for addressing Egypt's housing issues, with a mandate to provide public housing, drinking water and wastewater treatment utilities, and the planning and subdivision of new urban communities. It is headquartered in Cairo since its inception in 1961, and administers the nation's largest real estate developer, the New Urban Communities Authority, and the largest contractor, the Arab Contractors.

Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development was an appointment in the Cabinet of Sri Lanka formulated by Ranil Wickremesinghe government that came into power in August 2015 elections of Sri Lanka. The ministry was in charge of discovering solutions to resolve the garbage, housing of shanty dwellers issues as well drawing new traffic plans to avoid traffic jams in busy towns. The ministry planned to develop new cities in Bandaragama, Kadawatha, Kottawa and Kerawalapitiya surrounding the outer circular that was to come under construction as a part of the megapolis development plan.

The Mahaweli Development program is known as the largest multipurpose national development program in the history of Sri Lanka and is also considered as the keystone of the government's development program that was initiated in 1961.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka is the government entity responsible for policy formulation and regulation of the electric power distribution, water supply, petroleum resources, and other public utilities in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Standards Institution also known as Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) is the National Standards Authority/Board of Sri Lanka as a subsidiary member of International Organization for Standardization was established in 1964 under the former Bureau of Ceylon Standards Act No. 38 of 1964. The institution later functioned under the new act of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution Act No. 6 of 1984 replacing the previous outdated act. The organisation works as a regulatory institution and it is a kind of state corporation on behalf of the government mainly to protect consumers from the unethical business trade malpractices. SLSI being the prominent National Standards Body in Sri Lanka is affiliated as a member to the International Organization for Standards since its inception in 1964. SLSI is currently functioning under the Ministry of Science and Technology which is held by Susil Premajayanth.
