Mishkin Gallery is a university art museum affiliated with the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York. [1] The museum was founded in 1983 as the Baruch College Art Gallery and renamed the Mishkin Gallery in 1991, for alumnus Sidney Mishkin (Baruch, '34), [2] and Alaina Claire Feldman is currently the director. [3] [4] The museum presents historical and contemporary exhibitions emphasizing original scholarship, the understanding of modern and contemporary art, interdisciplinary cultural activity, and innovative artistic practices from around the world. [2] The museum has featured artists such as Franz Kline; [5] Lamin Fofana; [6] Marcel Sternberger; [7] Mercedes Matter; [8] Dorothea and Leo Rabkin; [9] Minerva Cuevas; [10] [11] [12] Juan Downey; [13] Thomas Child; [14] the New Blockheads; [15] Aura Rosenberg; [16] [17] and Jorge Gonzalez Santos. Collection

The Baruch College Art Collection houses approximately 1,500 artworks that have an emphasis on 20th century American painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors, dating from 1924-2020. A subdivision of this collection consists of 360 works that are permanently displayed throughout the Baruch College Campus where students are immersed in the artwork firsthand; [19] and there are three student collection websites. [20] [21] [22]

Education

Each exhibition is curated with educational expansion of Baruch students in mind. The Mishkin Gallery provides student-geared programming such as class/student group tours, panel discussions, and workshops for each exhibition [23]

Books and publishing

The museum produces exhibition publications and books to complement exhibitions. For instance, books such as "What is Psychedelic" [24] in connection with Aura Rosenberg's joint exhibition with Mishkin Gallery and Pioneer Works.

Community

The Mishkin Gallery defines its community as a group of curious and creative students, [25] artists, scholars, [26] and art lovers, who are open to exploring various art practices, cultures, [18] environmental [27] and social constructs. [28]

Minerva Cuevas is a Mexican conceptual artist known for site-specific interventions guided by social and political research and social change ideals. Her production includes installation, video works and photographic works as well as contextual interventions in specific locations. She lives and works in the neighborhood of el Centro Histórico in Mexico City, often directing her artistic and social efforts towards questioning the capitalist system. She is a member of Irational.org and the founder of the Mejor Vida Corp. (1998) and International Understanding Foundation (2016).

American Abstract Artists (AAA) was founded in 1937 in New York City, to promote and foster public understanding of abstract art. American Abstract Artists exhibitions, publications, and lectures helped to establish the organization as a major forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas, and for presenting abstract art to a broader public. The American Abstract Artists group contributed to the development and acceptance of abstract art in the United States and has a historic role in its avant-garde. It is one of the few artists’ organizations to survive from the Great Depression and continue into the 21st century.

The Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the campus of the University of British Columbia. The gallery is housed in a building designed by architect Peter Cardew which opened in 1995. Cardew received a RAIC gold medal for the building's design in 2012. It houses UBC's growing collection of contemporary art as well as archives containing objects and records related to the history of art in Vancouver.

La Maison Rouge was a private contemporary art Foundation dedicated mainly to showing private art collections, monographic shows of contemporary artists' work. It was located close to the Bastille, in Paris, at 10 Boulevard de la Bastille in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. La Maison Rouge has been definitely closed in October 2018.

Thomas Sills was a painter and collagist and a participant in the New York Abstract Expressionist movement. At the peak of his career in the 1960s and 1970s, his work was widely shown in museums. His work was regularly featured in art journals and is in museum collections.

Brose Partington is an Indianapolis-based kinetic sculptor. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1998 and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art & Design in 2004. His artworks have been shown in numerous cities across the United States including New York, Chicago, Miami, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles; in European galleries, and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Kurimanzutto is an art gallery located in Mexico City and New York City specializing in contemporary art that represents 33 international artists. It was founded in 1999 by Mónica Manzutto and José Kuri as a gallery without a fixed space. In 2006 it occupied a warehouse in the Colonia Condesa which served as a project space and workshop. Barjeel Art Foundation is a non-profit arts organisation based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Inimfon "Ini" Joshua Archibong is an industrial designer, creative director, artist and musician who is active in product design, furniture design, environmental design, architecture, watch design, and fashion.

Kenneth Victor Young (1933–2017), was an American artist, educator, and designer. He is associated with the Washington Color School art movement. He worked at the Smithsonian Institution as an exhibit designer for 35 years.

Esthella Provas is an art dealer regarded as one of the world's most influential art advisors. She is considered pivotal in the creation of the Museo Jumex in Mexico City, Mexico, the largest contemporary art collection in Latin America, and responsible for the collection's acquisitions. According to The New York Times, "With more than 2,800 works, the Colección Jumex is among the largest in Latin America in consultation with Provas."

Samir Rafi was an Egyptian modernist painter who combined modern style with lines inspired from Ancient Egypt. His pieces primarily represented modern Egypt and the surrounding region. He was inspired by cubism and surrealism, creating artworks both figurative and abstract.
