Miss Republic of the Philippines or Miss RP is a beauty pageant in the Philippines currently held biennially (every two years).

History

Miss Republic of the Philippines was first staged in 1969 under Ferdie Villar of Spotlight Promotions. The winner was chosen as the official delegate of the Philippines to the Miss World pageant. [1] [2]

The Runners-up of Miss Republic of the Philippines were awarded as Miss Luzon (1st Runner-up), Miss Visayas (2nd Runner-up), Miss Mindanao (3rd Runner-up) and Miss Manila (4th Runner-up).

Miss RP representation for Miss World lasted until 1976, when the Miss World franchise was transferred to Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss Republic of the Philippines 1976 Josephine Conde crowned Peachy Veneracion in 1977 the first Mutya ng Pilipinas – World, to distinguish it from the other winner of Mutya ng Pilipinas who competes in the Miss Asia Quest. Titleholders

The winners were awarded as Miss Republic of the Philippines of the succeeding calendar year, as the pageant is held almost at the end of the year, however they compete in the Miss World of the year they actually won the local title. [1]

2015 to Present - The revival of Miss Republic of the Philippines in 2015 and the inaugural of Mr. Republic of the Philippines in 2017 (scholarship-based pageant)

After a long hiatus, Miss Republic of the Philippines was revived in 2015 and re-branded with a new vision and trust by Successful Entrepreneur, Finance Software Architect and one of Philippines’ Best Dressed Women, Miss Lynette Padolina.

Cash prize and scholarship grant for a four-year college course or post-graduate studies, were given to the winners. Aside from the top title of Miss Republic of the Philippines, three equal ranking runners-up title of Miss RP-Luzon, Miss RP-Visayas and Miss RP-Mindanao were also awarded in 2015 alongside another title of Miss RP International intended for the Overseas Filipino Delegates of the pageant. [3] [4] [5] In 2018, a Mr Republic of the Philippines was added with three respective runners-up.

Miss World Representatives from 1966 to 1976

Prior to Mutya ng Pilipinas – World, the Philippines' delegates to Miss World from 1966 to 1968 were selected by various pageant organizers. [6] From 1969 to 1976, delegates were determined by winning at the Miss Republic of the Philippines pageant.

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2006 was the 38th Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held in Manila, on June 9, 2006.

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2004, the 36th edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc., was held on July 7, 2004 in Manila. Jedah Hernandez, came out victorious as the winner of Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2004. The pageant was made into a reality TV-type of competition wherein the candidates is eliminated gradually until the finals. Known for its innovation and trendsetting TV formats, ABC 5 has launched "Buhay Beauty Queen: The Search for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2004". Wherein all contestants undergo a 14-week training under the tutelage of well-known trainers and beauty experts. The winner receives 1 million pesos and will represent at Miss Asia Pacific International pageant.

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 was the 46th Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines, on August 8, 2014.

Christi Lynn Landrito McGarry is a Filipina model and beauty pageant titleholder who represented Taguig at Miss Universe Philippines 2024.

Lorraine Esperidion Schuck is a Filipina beauty pageant titleholder who won Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia 1979 and represented the Philippines at the 1979 Miss Asia Quest. She is one of the founders of, and is Executive Vice-President of, Carousel Productions, which runs the international beauty pageant Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth.

Miss La Union is an annual beauty pageant in the province of La Union of the Philippines. It began as the “Miss La Union” contest in 1978. The early editions were held years apart. The pageant took a break in 1992 and was not revived until 2000 as the “Millennium Mutya ng La Union” competition. Since 2011, it has become a major annual activity celebrating the founding of the province. In 2012, the pageant became known as “Mutia ti La Union” after the Iloko code was passed. Along with the Miss Ilocos Norte, Miss Ilocos Sur and the Limgas na Pangasinan pageants, the Mutia ti La Union pageant is one of the major pageants of the Ilocos Region and Northern Luzon.

Andrea Koreen Garcia Medina also known as Koreen Medina is a Filipino beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific Int'l for Miss Intercontinental 2013. She competed at the Miss Intercontinental 2013 pageant in Magdeburg, Germany on December 14, 2013 where she placed 3rd runner-up.

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 was the 50th Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines on September 16, 2018.

Binibining Pilipinas 1995 was the 32nd edition of Binibining Pilipinas. It took place at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 12, 1995.

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022 was the 52nd Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, held at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines, on December 4, 2022.
