Miss Rwanda 2009, the 2nd edition of the Miss Rwanda pageant, was held on December 19, 2009 at Gikondo Expo Grounds in Kigali.

Kigali is the capital and largest city of Rwanda. It is near the nation's geographic centre. The city has been Rwanda's economic, cultural, and transport hub since it became capital at independence in 1962. The city hosts the main residence and offices of the President of Rwanda and government ministries. The city is within the province of Kigali City, which was enlarged in January 2006, as part of local government reorganisation in the country. Kigali's city limits cover the whole province; it is consolidated. The city's urban area covers about 70% of the municipal boundaries.

Eastern Province, Rwanda Province in Rwanda

Eastern Province is the largest, the most populous and the least densely populated of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures.

Preparation

The 13 contestants were selected from their respective provinces to compete in the national competition. Various activities were organized to prepare candidates for the final. The first training camp was held at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel in Rubavu and later, in Nyarutarama. The training was based on the culture, economy and history of Rwanda. [2]

Nyarutarama is an affluent suburb of Kigali, Rwanda. The area is well developed with modern roads, sidewalks and street lighting. One of the key features of the suburb is "Lover's Lake" in the "Nyarutarama" valley, bordering on "Kigali Golf Course" to the west. The lake is surrounded by a walking track set within lush green vegetation and abundant bird life.

Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Rwanda is in the African Great Lakes region and is highly elevated; its geography is dominated by mountains in the west and savanna to the east, with numerous lakes throughout the country. The climate is temperate to subtropical, with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons each year.

Sonia Rolland is a Rwandan-French actress and was Miss France in the year 2000. She was also a contestant in the Miss Universe competition. She was the first African-born winner of the Miss France pageant.

Miss Earth Annual environmental-themed beauty contest

Miss Earth is an annual international environmental-themed beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness. Along with Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss International, this pageant is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants – the most coveted beauty titles when it comes to international pageant competitions. Miss World 2011, the 61st edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 6 November 2011 at the Earls Court Two in London, United Kingdom. Alexandria Mills of the United States crowned her successor Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela at the end of the event, she is the sixth Venezuelan women to win Miss World. Miss World 2013 63rd edition of the Miss World pageant

Miss World 2013, the 63rd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 28 September 2013 at Bali Nusa Dua International Convention Center, South Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. 127 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown making the biggest turnout in the pageant's history. Yu Wenxia of China crowned her successor Megan Young of the Philippines at the end of the event. This is the first time that the Philippines won the title of Miss World.

Miss World 2016, the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 18 December 2016 at the MGM National Harbor, Washington, D.C., United States. 117 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Mireia Lalaguna of Spain crowned her successor Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico at the end of the event. It was the second time that the Miss World pageant held in the United States.

Miss University Africa 2017, the 5th edition of the Miss University Africa pageant, was held on 2 December 2017 at Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt. Contestants from 54 African countries competed for the crown. The winner, Lorriane Nadal of Mauritius succeeded Rorisang Molefe of Lesotho, as the reigning Miss University Africa Queen. She was crowned by First Lady of Rivers State, Eberechi Wike at the end of the event.

Miss Rwanda 2018, the 8th edition of the Miss Rwanda pageant, was held on February 24, 2018 at Camp Kigali Grounds in the province of Kigali.
