Rugby football is the collective name for the team sports of rugby union or rugby league.
The University of Victoria (UVic) is a public research university located in the municipalities of Oak Bay and Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1903 as Victoria College, the institution was initially an affiliated college of McGill University until 1915. From 1921 to 1963, it functioned as an affiliate of the University of British Columbia. In 1963, the institution was reorganized into an independent university.

He and fellow 2011 inductee Brian Lima of Samoa are the first members of the IRB Hall from nations outside of the traditional top tier of the sport.

Barbara Mervin is a Canadian rugby union player also known affectionately as Swevin Mervin. She represented Canada at the 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup. She broke a bone in her right hand in Canada's first World Cup match against Spain and missed out on the rest of the World Cup in France. Mervin was a member of the Canadian sevens team that won the 2012 Las Vegas Sevens.
Leslie Cripps is a Canadian rugby union player and former captain of the national team. A national team representative for over a decade, Cripps is considered one of the top ten North American women rugby union players.
Aaron David Abrams is a former Canadian rugby union player. He played as a hooker and represented Canada internationally from 2003 to 2006. He was included in the Canadian squad for the 2003 Rugby World Cup and played in two group stage matches. Aaron finished that tournament as one of the try scorers for Canada.
The Victoria Vikes women's basketball team represent the University of Victoria in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association of U Sports women's basketball. The Vikes have captured the Bronze Baby, awarded to the U Sports National Champions, a record nine times. The McKinnon Building and Gym was the former home of the Vikes, and the basketball court itself was named "Ken and Kathy Shields Court" in 2002, honouring the Vikes legendary basketball coaches. As a side note, the facility also hosted the 1993 CIS women's basketball national championships and a 1999 Vancouver Grizzlies NBA intra-squad game.
Ian A. Hyde-Lay is a Canadian former rugby union footballer, coach and referee. He played as fly-half. Before his rugby union career, he was also a basketball player, with his position being guard, and coach as well.
