Mitchell Shubow Steir (born August 3, 1955) [4] is a commercial real estate broker. [5] He is chairman and chief executive officer of Savills North America. [6]

Biography

Steir was born to a Jewish family on August 3, 1955 [7] and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, [8] the son of Judith (née Shubow) and Berton "Bert" Steir, the founder of Service Corporation of America. His grandfather was Boston rabbinical scholar, Joseph Shalom Shubow. [4] [9] He attended Milton Academy, in Milton, Massachusetts, [10] and then the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. [11]

Steir's first job was at a computer training startup. He took his first real estate job with Huberth & Peters in 1983. [10] [11] In 1984 he received The Most Ingenious Deal of the Year award of the Real Estate Board of New York. [5] In 1988 Steir joined Julien J. Studley Inc. He negotiated the largest transaction of 1999 in Manhattan, a lease of 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) for Time Inc., and the largest transaction of 2000 in midtown New York, 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2) for the headquarters of AOL Time Warner. [11] In 2003, Steir led a management buyout of the company from Julien J. Studley who was forced out, [12] and became chief executive officer. [13] [14] He has since negotiated leases for WilmerHale at 7 World Trade Center, in 2011, [5] and for Tiffany & Co. at 200 Fifth Avenue, in 2012. [15]

Steir is a member of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Real Estate Division Executive Council. [16] He was married to Nancy Ganz; [17] they have two children, Max and Rachel. [4]

General Motors Building (Manhattan) Office skyscraper in Manhattan, New York

The General Motors Building is a 50-story, 705 ft (215 m) office tower at 767 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City. The building, which is bound by Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue between 59th Street and 58th Street, is one of the few structures in Manhattan to occupy a full city block. With 1.774 million net leasable square feet, the tower sits on the site of the former Savoy-Plaza Hotel and affords views of Central Park. It was designed in the international style by Edward Durell Stone & Associates with Emery Roth & Sons and completed in 1968. It is the 66th tallest building in New York.

Adam C. Hochfelder is an American real estate executive who co-founded the real estate firm Max Capital in 1996, with members of the powerful Kalikow real estate family. At its peak, Max Capital had ownership or management stakes in 8,000,000 square feet (740,000 m2) of space, including the Helmsley Building and the Conde Nast Building. His portfolio was valued at as much as $2.7 billion at its peak. Some of the nation's largest institutions invested side by side with Hochfelder including JP Morgan, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and Fidelity. He bought out N. Richard Kalikow from his partnership because of a soured relationship in 2002. Hochfelder paid Kalikow $35 million, of which $18 million was Hochfelder's own money, and he borrowed $17 million from banks to help finance the buyout of Kalikow. Some of the loans were collateralized in a manner inconsistent with reporting regulations. Hochfelder voluntarily paid back all of the money to complete the transaction. Due to NYS regulations, he was obligated to serve 14 months in a NYS program. Hochfelder is known as the "Wharton Whiz Kid" for his ability to financially structure and acquire some of NYC's largest properties which helped him generate multimillion-dollar deals. Currently, Hochfelder is the Managing Director of Real Estate Acquisitions & Development at Merchants Hospitality.
