The Goa Mix is a two-hour DJ mix by British musician and DJ Paul Oakenfold. It was originally broadcast on BBC Radio 1 as an Essential Mix on 18 December 1994 after the producer of the show, Eddie Gordon, chose Oakenfold to produce an eclectic DJ mix for the show which featured a burgeoning variation of electronic styles, having begun the previous year. Oakenfold had, at this point, developed his own unique Goa trance sound, influenced by his time at hippy gatherings on beaches in Goa, and employed it heavily into the mix, which also made pioneering use of film score samples. Oakenfold used the mix as an experiment in which he tried to fuse electronic music, especially trance music, with film score music, and then to overlay the result with vocal parts, samples and additional production. The mix was split into two parts, later referred to as the Silver Mix and the Gold Mix respectively. Reflecting the Goa influence, the album title did not evolve beyond its simplistic working name.

The Annexation of Goa was the process in which the Republic of India annexed Estado da Índia, the then Portuguese Indian territories of Goa, Daman and Diu, starting with the armed action carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in December 1961. The Sal River is a small river in Salcete, Goa, India. Thought to be the smallest river in Goa. The river opens near Verna and flows in south-western direction through 16 kilometers passing through the villages of Nuvem, Mongul, Seraulim, Colva, Margao, Benaulim, Navelim, Varca, Orlim, Carmona, Dramapur, Chinchinim, Assolna, Cavelossim, Mobor and drains itself into the Arabian Sea at Betul. Sal river boating is also a tourist attraction.

The Goan Muslims are a minority community who follow Islam in the Indian coastal state of Goa, some are also present in the union territory of Damaon, Diu& Silvassa. They are native to Goa, unlike recent Muslim migrants from mainland India and are commonly referred to as Moir by Goans in Goan Konkani. Moir is derived from the Portuguese word mour. First case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed in Goa on 25 March 2020. The state has confirmed a total of 10494 cases, of whom 6912 have recovered and 91 died, as of 13 August. The state was COVID-19 free for 23 days until the disease resurfaced on 14 May when a family returning from the neighbouring state of Maharashtra tested positive. The worst impact was felt around September-October 2020, while as of April-May 2021, a second wave of COVID-19 was also felt strongly across the small State.
Padmakar Ganapat Halarnkar was Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, Karnataka state, India and also Director General of Central Reserve Police Force. He was born in 1932 at Rajiwadi near Pune. He was Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 1956 batch, Karnataka cadre. He was the Commissioner of Bangalore city from 1983 to 1986. He was Director General Central Reserve Police Force from 1 April 1988 to 30 September 1990. He was considered as honest, strict police officer who resisted pressure from politicians. He was a native of Pednem, Goa. He died on 2 January 2021 at Bengaluru at the age of 88 years.
