Mohammed Adan Saqadhi (born 18 October 1967),also known as Dabagale,is a senior military official from Somaliland. He formerly served as the Chief of the Somaliland Police Force from November 2019 until January 2025. [2]
Saqadhi was born on 18 October 1967 in Hargeisa, which was then part of the Somali Republic (now Somaliland). [3]
Saqadhi began his military career by joining the Somali National Movement (SNM) in 1982. The SNM was instrumental in the struggle for Somaliland's self-declared independence. He later rose through the ranks of the Somaliland Armed Forces, eventually serving as the Chief of Operations.
On 5 November 2019,President Muse Bihi Abdi appointed Brigadier General Mohamed Adan Saqadhi as the Chief of the Somaliland Police Force, [4] following the death of his predecessor,Major General Abdillahi Fadal Iman.[ citation needed ] Saqadhi held this position until 23 January 2025,when he was succeeded by Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan (Abdi Dhere).[ citation needed ]
During his tenure,Saqadhi oversaw various operations aimed at maintaining security and public order in Somaliland. [5] His leadership period included efforts to combat smuggling and other illicit activities. [6] However, his tenure also faced criticism from international organizations regarding press freedom and the treatment of journalists. [7]
