Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed (born 28 March 1977) is a Maldivian politician who is currently serving as the Minister of Islamic Affairs since 17 November 2023. [2]
Shaheem attained his Bachelor of Islamic Sharia from the Islamic University of Madinah and his PhD from International Islamic University Malaysia. [3]
He was the Minister of Islamic Affairs from 19 February 2012 to 05 May 2015 under President Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik and Abdulla Yameen. He was also the unsuccessful running mate of President Abdulla Yameen in the 2018 Maldivian presidential election. [4]
He was then appointed Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives. [5] In 2020,he became a political advisor to the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives. [6] [4]
He was later appointed by President Mohamed Muizzu as the Minister of Islamic Affairs,but when the Parliament decided to vote to approve of Shaheem,majority of the MPs voted no and President Muizzu reappointed him. [2] [7] [8]
