Chabab Riadhi de Belouizdad S.s.p.a, known as Chabab Belouizdad or CR Belouizdad or simply CRB for short, is an Algerian association football club based in the district of Belouizdad, Algiers, Algeria, that plays in the Ligue Professionnelle 1, the top flight of Algerian football. The club has competed in the top division for a record 55 seasons.
Mohamed Belouizdad is a quarter of Algiers, Algeria in Algiers Province. The quarter was formerly known as Belcourt during the French colonisation period. It was renamed as Hamma-El Annasser after Algerian independence, before the present name Belouizdad was adopted in 1992 in honour of the Algerian militant and nationalist Mohamed Belouizdad who lived in the quarter.
The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, known as Championnat National de Première Division or Ligue 1 for short, and formerly known as the Championnat National 1, is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Algerian football league system. The 2019 Algerian Cup Final was the 55th final of the Algerian Cup. The final took place on June 8, 2019, at Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida with kick-off at 17:00 between CR Belouizdad and JSM Béjaïa, The latter is the first club from a bottom level to reach the final since 2005–06. CR Belouizdad achieved their eighth title in their history with a 2–0 win. Due to the difficult political conditions in Algeria and for the first time in the history of the Algerian cup final, the president of the country does not hand over the cup to the winning team, where he was handed over by the Minister of Youth and Sports Raouf Salim Bernaoui.
In the 2019–20 season, CR Belouizdad competed in Ligue 1 for the 54th season, as well as for the CAF Confederation Cup and the Algerian Cup. On March 15, 2020, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) decided to halt the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Algeria. On July 29, 2020, the LFP declared that season is over and CR Belouizdad to be the champion, the promotion of four teams from the League 2, and scraping the relegation for the current season.
The fixture between CR Belouizdad and USM Alger is a local derby in Algiers, Algeria and a fierce rivalry. The derby does not have a common name. From the first meetings in the 1960s, a sport rivalry settled between the two clubs. It slowly fades in the next two decades before being revived in the late 1990s and early twenty-first century.
Ali Reghba is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for CR Belouizdad. Born in Germany, he has played youth football for the Republic of Ireland national team. Besides the Republic of Ireland, he has played in Algeria and England.
The CR Belouizdad–MC Oran rivalry, are the matches between CR Belouizdad (CRB) and MC Oran (MCO) and gives rise to an important confrontation. The first represents Algiers, the capital of the country, the second Oran, the second largest city in the country. They are both among the most successful clubs in the country.
