Mohammad Sarfaraz, known as Sarfi, is an Indian international ice stock sport athlete. [1] Sarfi has a right hand style and has represented India at an international level. In 2018 Mohammad Sarfaraz led India to a tenth place finish at the World Championships in Austria. [1] [2]

Mohammad Sarfaraz has captained the Indian ice stock sport national team since 2018. [1] He is currently Asia’s highest scorer in Target Competition, a score of 154 which he achieved in Single’s Target Event in Harbin, China International Cup 2019. [3] He is also the head coach of senior men and women teams for Ice Stock Sport in Jammu and Kashmir. He also monitors the progress of J&K A and J&K under-19 Stock sports teams. [3]

He was also Minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and Home Minister of India in V. P. Singh's cabinet. He started in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq, which later merged into the Indian National Congress. He switched to Janata Dal in 1987, eventually founding his own regional party, People's Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP continues to be a political force in Jammu and Kashmir, currently led by his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.

After the revocation of the special status (autonomy) of the state in August 2019, Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act. She was released only in October 2020, after the Supreme Court of India quizzed the government about the length of her detention.

Jammu and Kashmir won the most gold medals while the Indian Army team came second with 8 gold medals.
