Darbhanga is the fifth largest city and municipal corporation in the state of Bihar in India, and is considered an important city in North Bihar. It serves as the headquarters of the Darbhanga district and the Darbhanga division. It is held that the name Darbhanga has been derived from Dwar Banga or Dari – Banga, meaning the 'door of Bengal'.

Baliraajgadh is an archaeological site located at Babubarhi block in Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar state in India. The site is locally known as Raja Bali ka Garh. It is among the three important archeological sites Balirajgarh fort, Telhara and Nalanda in the state of Bihar in India. The site of Balirajgarh is greater than the site of Vikramshila and Vaishali but it has not yet been developed as a tourist place. Balirajgarh Fort is located on the territory of Mithila, 7 kilometers east of Kamlabalan River and 35 kilometers west of Kosi River. It has been claimed by some scholars to be the location of the ancient city of Mithila. The headquarter of the Ancient Mithila University was at the court of King Janaka in Mithila. Therefore, Balirajgadh is also the possible site of the Ancient Mithila University. It is the place from where most of the schools of the ancient Indian philosophy emerged. Nyaya Shastra, Logical sciences, Samkhya Shastra, Mimansa Shastra and many more Indian philosophy emerged from the Ancient Mithila University.

An annual four day Ganesh Puja festival is organised by Ganesh Puja Samiti at the temple. An annual Durga Puja festival has been held since 1954, and is organised by Durga Puja Samiti. Akharharghat is a village and a local tourist place located at Sahar North panchayat in Mithila region of Madhubani district in Bihar. The village is situated on the bank of three local rivers Dhauns, Yamuni and Bhiggi. There is a junction of these river streams. The junction of these river streams is a religious place for the local Hindu pilgrimage called as Jamuni Sangam. Hindu pilgrimage took bath in the holy water at the Jamuni Sangam on the festival Makarsankranti and Bhai Duj. There is a Hindu temple of Lord Shiva known as Shree Trilokinath Mahadev Mandir. The temple is known for organising a locally famous fair known as Jamuni Mela. Akharharghat is also an Indo-Nepal border which covers three kilometer border from pillar number 830 to 93 in Brahmapuri village. Nepali APF, SSB, Thana Police Force have joint regular patrolling along the Indo-Nepal border. The village is on the trial of the International border line between India and Nepal. This village turns into an island in raining seasons. The village is connected to the Indo-Nepal border connecting road National Highway number 104 by an approach road at the Saharghat village of Madhwapur block. The village is only 3 kms distance from the headquarter of the Madhwapur block in Madhubani district of Bihar. There is a destroyed wooden bridge in the village built during the British rule to connect the village with the nearest market village Saharghat. Local BJP leader and MLC Ghanshyam Thakur raised the issue of the destroyed wood bridge in the session of Legislative Council of Bihar state in India.
Ayachi Mishra Dih is a historical site related to the Indian scholar Ayachi Mishra. It is located at Sarisab Pahi village of Madhubani district in Mithila region of Bihar, India. Ayachi Mishra was the scholar of Nyaya school of the Indian philosophy. Ayachi Mishra Dih was the part of the Ancient Mithila University. The historical site is presently maintained by a cultural and religious organisation known as Ayachi Dih Vikas Samiti.
Saharghat is a semi urban panchayat in Madhwapur block of Madhubani district in Mithila region of Bihar, India. It is connected by National Highway 104 and State Highway 75 with different parts of the major cities in the state of Bihar, India and Madhesh Pradesh province of Nepal. The village comes under Harlakhi Assembly constituency and Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency.
