PLOS One is a peer-reviewed open access mega journal published by the Public Library of Science (PLOS) since 2006. The journal covers primary research from any discipline within science and medicine. The Public Library of Science began in 2000 with an online petition initiative by Nobel Prize winner Harold Varmus, formerly director of the National Institutes of Health and at that time director of Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center; Patrick O. Brown, a biochemist at Stanford University; and Michael Eisen, a computational biologist at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Annual Reviews is an independent, non-profit academic publishing company based in San Mateo, California. As of 2021, it publishes 51 journals of review articles and Knowable Magazine, covering the fields of life, biomedical, physical, and social sciences. Review articles are usually “peer-invited” solicited submissions, often planned one to two years in advance, which go through a peer-review process. The organizational structure has three levels: a volunteer board of directors, editorial committees of experts for each journal, and paid employees.
Infection and Immunity is a peer-reviewed medical journal published by the American Society for Microbiology. It focuses on interactions between bacterial, fungal, or parasitic pathogens and their hosts. Areas covered include molecular pathogenesis, cellular microbiology, bacterial infection, host responses and inflammation, fungal and parasitic infections, microbial immunity and vaccines, and molecular genomics. The journal publishes primary research articles, editorials, commentaries, minireviews, and a spotlight report highlighting articles of particular interest selected by the editors. Articles are freely accessible after 6 months. Through its "Global Outreach Program," free online access is available to qualified microbiologists in eligible developing countries.
Contrast Media & Molecular Imaging is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal published by John Wiley & Sons since 2006 and by Hindawi Publishing Corporation since 2017. It covers the areas of contrast agents and molecular imaging, covering all areas of imaging technologies with a special emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography, but also all other in vivo imaging technologies such as x-Ray, CT, ultrasound etc. The current editor-in-chief is Luc Zimmer, professor of pharmacology at the . On 1 January 2017, the journal became fully open access due to a publishing partnership between John Wiley & Sons and the Hindawi Publishing Corporation, where the journal "remain[s] a Wiley title but will be published and hosted by Hindawi". Molecular imaging articles concentrate on the potential role played by MRI and PET contrast agents at visualizing, at the molecular or cellular level, the physiology and physio-pathological processes from animal models to humans.
The Journal of Endocrinology is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes original research articles, reviews and commentaries. Its focus is on endocrine physiology and metabolism, including hormone secretion, hormone action, and biological effects. The journal considers basic and translational studies at the organ and whole organism level.
Genes, Brain and Behavior is a peer-reviewed online-only scientific journal covering research in the fields of behavioral, neural, and psychiatric genetics. It is published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society. The journal was established in 2002 as a quarterly and is currently published monthly.
