History

Momma was formed in 2015 by Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, who have been friends since meeting at Viewpoint School. [1] [2] [3]

The band signed with Polyvinyl when the record label cold emailed them. [4]

Momma released their first album, Interloper, in 2018 on Danger Collective Records. [1] On February 24, 2020, Momma announced their second album, Two Of Me, alongside a new song, "Double Dare". [5] On April 6, 2020, Momma shared another song from the album, "Biohazard". [6] The album was recorded during summer break while the members were attending college. [2] The album was described as a concept album "about small-town life in an alternate reality". [7] [8] The band went on to release their third album, Household Name, on July 1, 2022 via Polyvinyl and Lucky Number to critical acclaim. [9] [10] In mid-2023, they opened several shows for Weezer during their Indie Rock Road Trip tour. [11]

Musical style

Marcy Donelson of AllMusic called Momma "riffy, ruminative indie rock." [8]
