An acting governor is a person who acts in the role of governor. In Commonwealth jurisdictions where the governor is a vice-regal position,the role of "acting governor" may be filled by a lieutenant governor or an administrator.
John Raymond Garamendi is an American businessman,politician and member of the Democratic Party who has represented areas of Northern California between San Francisco and Sacramento,including the cities of Fairfield and Vacaville in the United States House of Representatives since 2009. Garamendi was the California insurance commissioner from 1991 to 1995 and 2003 to 2007,the U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Interior from 1995 to 1998,and the 46th lieutenant governor of California from 2007 until his election to Congress in late 2009.
Abel O. Maldonado Jr. is an American politician who served as the 48th lieutenant governor of California from April 27,2010 to January 10,2011. As of 2024,Maldonado is the last member of the Republican Party to officially serve as Lieutenant Governor of California to date.

Currently,it encompasses the northeastern part of the state. Since the 2022 election,it includes the counties of Butte,Colusa,Glenn,Lassen,Modoc,Shasta,Siskiyou,Sutter,and Tehama,and most of Yuba County. The largest cities in the district are Chico,Redding,and Yuba City.

Forty-one individuals have held the office of lieutenant governor since Wisconsin's admission to the Union in 1848,two of whom—Warren Knowles and Jack Olson—have served for non-consecutive terms. The first lieutenant governor was John Holmes,who took office on June 7,1848. The current lieutenant governor is Sara Rodriguez,who took office on January 3,2023.
Marymount College was a four-year liberal arts college located in Salina,Kansas that opened in 1922 as a women's college. It was operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia,Kansas. The original college was a three-story building that overlooked the Smoky Hill River. The single building on its 30-acre (12 ha) campus dominated the eastern edge of the city.
Wade Sanders is an attorney from San Diego,California and a retired United States Navy Captain who served as Deputy Assistant United States Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs during the Clinton Administration. He was formerly California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi's senior adviser for veterans and military affairs. As an attorney,he specialized in the legal practice of corporate governance and ethics,as well as employee owned companies and lobbying for major corporations. In December 2008,he pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of child pornography and served almost three years in prison. On January 9,2013,Sanders was disbarred.
The 2010 California gubernatorial election was held November 2,2010,to elect the governor of California. The primary elections were held on June 8,2010. Because constitutional office holders in California have been prohibited from serving more than two terms in the same office since November 6,1990,incumbent Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was term-limited and thus was ineligible to run for re-election to a third term. Former governor Jerry Brown,to whom the term limits did not apply due to a grandfather clause,defeated Meg Whitman in the general election and was sworn into office on January 3,2011. As of 2024,this is the last time the governor’s office in California changed partisan control.

William Elbridge Sewell was a United States Navy Lieutenant Commander and the 6th Naval Governor of Guam from February 9,1903,until he returned to the mainland United States for medical treatment on January 11,1904. He was born in Colchester,New York,and appointed to the United States Naval Academy from that state in 1867. He served on numerous ships before becoming an ensign,and eventually became executive officer or commanding officer of a series of ships and installations. He then became commanding officer of the Guam flagship,and soon after,governor of Guam. As governor,he initiated a series of tax and legal reforms,including many that restored the rights of the native population to practice their culture more freely. He legalized and taxed alcohol and set up a court system that lasted 30 years. In January 1904,he fell ill from intestinal troubles and was transported to California for treatment,where he died while still in office.
