Monique de Vries is a Dutch politician and has been with the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy since 1973. [1] From the period 1994-2003 she was the Secretary of State of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. [2] [3] and a member of the House of Representatives. [1]
De Vries was born on August 16, 1947, in The Hague (the Netherlands). [1] After grammar school she studied Italian Language and Literature at Leiden University, receiving her master's degree in 1973. From 1976 on she was active in the Dutch Liberal Party as chair of the Liberal Women's Organization, member of "The Hague Council", MP and Vice Minister for Transport, Public Works and Water Management. [2] [3]
De Vries was the president of the Women's organisation of the VVD in 1994 and from 1990-1994 she was a member of the Hague municipal council. [1]
De Vries visited Antarctica in 1999 as Vice-Minister for Water Management for the Dutch government. [4] During this journey the polar region impressed her greatly. From 2003 until 2010 she was chair of the Steering Committee for the Netherlands Polar Programme. From 2010 until September 2016 she was chair of the Netherlands Polar Committee. [5]
She played a crucial role behind the scenes for Dutch polar research in her role persuading Members of parliament and Members of government to contribute to the Netherlands Polar Programme, during the five-yearly negotiations for new budget for this research programme both in 2010 and 2015. [6]
The second Balkenende cabinet was the executive branch of the Government of the Netherlands from 27 May 2003 until 7 July 2006. The cabinet was formed by the Christian-democratic Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), the conservative-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), and the social-liberal Democrats 66 (D66) after the election of 2003. The cabinet was a centre-right coalition and had a slim majority in the House of Representatives with Christian Democratic Leader Jan Peter Balkenende serving as Prime Minister. Liberal Leader Gerrit Zalm, a former Minister of Finance, served as Deputy Prime Minister and returned as Minister of Finance, while former Progressive-Liberal Leader Thom de Graaf served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio for the Interior.
Femke Halsema is a Dutch politician and filmmaker. On 27 June 2018, she was appointed Mayor of Amsterdam and began serving a six-year term on 12 July 2018. She is the first woman to hold the position on a non-interim basis. She previously was a member of the House of Representatives for the leftist green party GroenLinks from 1998 to 2011, and served as the party's parliamentary leader from 2002 to 2010.

Previously he was a member of the House of Representatives for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, serving from 31 March 2015 to 23 March 2017 and once again from 31 October 2017 to 3 July 2019. De Lange was alderman in Noordwijk between 2006 and 2013 and in Wassenaar between 2013 and 2014 where he also served as deputy mayor.

Heleen Margriet Dupuis is a Dutch ethicist, professor, and politician who served in the Senate from 1999 to 2015 as part of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Her father was a doctor with a practice out of her hometown of Rotterdam. She began her professional career as a part-time teacher and professor in the 1970s. From there, she worked in the ethics department at Leiden University. She served as chairman of the Dutch Voluntary Euthanasia Association from 1981 to 1985, and has also served as chairman of the Alzheimer's Council of the Netherlands; she cites the death of her first husband from dementia in her support of voluntary euthanasia.

Wybren Ridley van Haga is a Dutch politician and engineer who has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2017. He was initially elected as a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), but was expelled from the party in 2019, causing the third Rutte cabinet to lose its parliamentary majority. Van Haga subsequently sat as an independent MP before joining Thierry Baudet's Forum for Democracy party, where he was placed second on the party list in the 2021 election. He has since quit Forum for Democracy and created his own political party Belang van Nederland.

At 299 days, it was the longest formation in Dutch history.
The parliamentary inquiry into natural gas extraction Groningen is a parliamentary inquiry by the Dutch House of Representatives which started in 2021 and is investigating the natural gas extraction from the Groningen gas field and the and the problems that caused. The goal of the inquiry is to gain insight into decision-making regarding natural gas extraction, earthquakes, damage handling and reinforcement of buildings.
