Monroe High School is the main continuation high school that is located just outside Tehachapi, California. Monroe has one principal, a secretary and office clerk, two part-time counselors and three full-time teachers. [2] The school is also the site of the Monroe Independent Study Center (formerly Summit Independent Study Center), [3] and Tehachapi Adult School. [4] Monroe is part of the Tehachapi Unified School District. [5] After the 2010–2011 school year, the district plans on moving Monroe High School to the former junior high school building. [6]

Excelsior High School, originally named Excelsior Union High School, was founded in 1903 and located on Walnut Street in Norwalk, California. The current campus was built in 1924. The campus sustained substantial damage to the administration building, auditorium, and other buildings in the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. Although the earthquake occurred after school hours, one student died when an internal wall in a portion of the boy's gym failed. Its last graduating class was 1981.
