Monterey Trail High School (MTHS or MT) is a 9th-12th grade college preparatory high school located in Elk Grove, California. The school was established in 2004 as part of the Elk Grove Unified School District.

Contents

History

The school color of forest green is based on the abundant amount of trees along the areas of Elk Grove, Laguna Creek, and Franklin. The second school color of gold is based on the Monterey Trail becoming well-traveled after the discovery of gold. The school mascot, the Mustang, is based on the horses that travelers rode while traveling the Monterey Trail in the 19th century. [2]

Mark Macres Memorial Stadium

After Vice Principal Mark Macres died from cancer in the spring of 2007, the campus football stadium was dedicated to his name on October 26, 2007. As he was a vice principal at Florin High School before Monterey Trail High School, students and staff from both Monterey Trail High School and Florin High School as well as EGUSD dignitaries were invited to the dedication ceremony. Monterey Trail High School has received full WASC accreditation. As of 2018–2019, the graduation rate of Monterey Trail High School is 84.5% of students. [4]

Academics

As of 2007–2008, Monterey Trail High School scored a 719 (out of 1000) on the Academic Performance Index (API), ranking fifth in the state and eighth in similar schools. The school also meets the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act. It uses block schedules for its academic scheduling.

Monterey Trail High School has received full WASC accreditation. As of 2007–2008, the graduation rate of Monterey Trail High School is 95.3% of students. [4]

Design and Technology Academy (DATA)

The Design and Technology Academy (DATA) of Monterey Trail High School is an acclaimed technology program founded in 2004. The program offers three strands: Computer Science, Engineering, and Environmental Architecture. Currently students are enrolled in the program. DATA students enjoy the benefit of a close learning community that integrates teachers and students together. [5]

Mary Tsuruko Dakusaku Tsukamoto was a Japanese American educator, cultural historian, and civil rights activist. She had taught in the Elk Grove Unified School District in Sacramento, California, for 26 years, and was described as having a passion to teach children how to learn from experience. The daughter of Japanese parents, she was relocated to an internment camp at Jerome, Arkansas, after the United States entered World War II. She developed a program about the internment period that is part of the California state curriculum for fifth grade history and a California Museum of History tour exhibit. She worked for Japanese American civil liberties, and played a pivotal role in the grassroots effort that led to the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. She also worked with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, where she developed an exhibit on internment for the Constitution's bicentennial. In March 2006, she was posthumously recognized as a National Women's History Month honoree.

Elk Grove Charter School is a charter school located in Elk Grove, California, United States. It is officially accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school serves students in the 7th-12th grades in the Elk Grove Unified School District and five counties that touch Sacramento County.

California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is a private for-profit medical school located in Elk Grove, California, and is one of the four colleges of California Northstate University, granting the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). Although the proposed California Northstate University hospital will operate on a not-for-profit basis, CNUCOM will remain a for-profit educational institution. The college of medicine was approved by the WASC in August 2013 and gained preliminary accreditation in June 2015 and provisional accreditation in June 2019 by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). In January 2022, the LCME denied CNUCOM full accreditation status; the school will remain provisionally accredited until further evaluation. California Northstate currently lacks authorization through the Higher Education Act title IV, Student Assistance section or Title 38 of the Veterans Benefit Program. This impacts access to Federal Student Loans, any Federal Student Funding, access to refinancing, and limits to currently 3 lenders.
