The educational system of Myanmar is operated by the government Ministry of Education. Universities and professional institutes from upper Burma and lower Burma are run by two separate entities, the Departments of Higher Education, whose office headquarters are in Yangon and Mandalay respectively. The education system is based on the United Kingdom's system, due to nearly a century of British and Christian presences in Burma. "The first Government high school was founded by the British colonial administration in 1874. Two years later, this Government High School was upgraded and became University College, Rangoon." Nearly all schools are government-operated, but recently, there has been an increase in privately funded schools. Schooling is compulsory until the end of elementary school, probably about 9 years old, while the compulsory schooling age is 15 or 16 at international level.
Chaung-U is a town in central Myanmar. It is located in Monywa District, Sagaing Division. It is the principal town of Chaung-U township. In the Bagan dynasty, when King Popa Saw Rahan governed the country, it was named "San Tauk Village". It was a large village where different natives of the Union of Myanmar, like Kayin, Shan and Lawah (Wah) natives, lived happily together. Then, King Kyansit founded the city, gathering ten villages together, for example, Ywa Thit and Ywa Ma, naming it Chaung Oo. It is situated 231.46 feet (70.55 m) above sea level at north latitude 22° 45' and east longitude 95° 8' to 95° 25'. The Monywa–Mandalay highway road passes it, so the communication to it is good, quick and easy. The Monywa–Mandalay railway meets that of Chaung-U–Pakokku in the town's station, so you can get there by train. Its official township boundary touches the boundaries of other townships: Myinmu is in the east, Myaung is in the south and south-east, Salingyi is in the west, and Monywa is in the north. The Chindwin River is in the west of the township and the town is six miles away from the river. In Chaung-U there are historical ancient pagodas. Besides, its township has other historical villages, streams, and hills.
Salingyi is a town in Salingyi Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region in Myanmar. It is the administrative seat for Salingyi Township, and is at a tri-crossroads with roads heading north-west to Yinmabin, north to Monywa, and south-west to Kyadet. On the east of town, there is a large textile mill which was completed in 2005.
Kalay, also known as Karlay, is a town in the Sagaing Division of Myanmar. It is located upstream from Mandalay and Monywa on the Myittha River, a tributary of the Chindwin River. The town is the district headquarters of the Kalay District. It has gained importance with trans border movement enabled between Burma and India following the 165 kilometres (103 mi) Tamu–Kalayamyo section of India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway built by the Border Roads Organization of India under the Look-East Connectivity policy. Consequently, Kalay is now one of the fastest developing towns in Burma.
The Yangon University of Education, located in Kamayut, Yangon, is the premier university of education in Myanmar. Primarily a teacher training college, the institute offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in education to the country's prospective primary, secondary and tertiary school teachers. Its training high school known as TTC is considered one of the best high schools in the country.
Budalin is a town in Budalin Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Division in Burma (Myanmar). It is the administrative seat of Budalin Township. The town is connected by road and rail to Monywa, Dabayin, Kin-U and Ye-U, with a bridge over the Mu River.
The University of Distance Education, Mandalay, located in Mandalay, is one of two universities under the University of Distance Education system in Myanmar. With over 500,000 students mostly studying liberal arts and economics, the UDE system is the largest university in Myanmar. The Mandalay university serves distance education students in Upper Myanmar whereas the University of Distance Education, Yangon serves Lower Myanmar.
The Monywa University of Economics, located in Monywa, Sagaing Region, is one of four universities of economics and business in Myanmar. The University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and diplomas, mostly in commerce, statistics and economics. It also has a small stable of graduate degree programs, including a full-time MBA program.
The Sagaing University of Education, located in Sagaing, Sagaing Region, is one of two senior universities of education in Myanmar. Primarily a teacher training college, the institute offers Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and M.Phil degree programs in education to the country's prospective primary, secondary and tertiary school teachers.
Taungoo Educational College is located at Taungoo, Bago Division, Myanmar. It situated along the bank of the moat. Formerly it was the Convent High School under the Taungoo, Roman Catholic Diocese. After nationalized, it became Teacher's Training College. In 2000, the named has been changed to Taungoo Educational College and the government upgraded the level. Primarily a teacher training college, the college offers bachelor's, master's in education to the country's prospective primary, secondary and tertiary school teachers
The Computer University, Monywa is a public university in Monywa, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. The Ministry of Science and Technology run university offers bachelor's, and graduate degree programs in computer science, and computer technology. Students may continue advanced studies at the University of Computer Studies, Yangon in Yangon.
Monywa District is an administrative district in southern Sagaing Division, Burma (Myanmar). Its administrative center is the city of Monywa.

Phowintaung is a Buddhist cave complex located approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Monywa and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southeast of Yinmabin, in Yinmabin Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Northern Burma (Myanmar). It is located on the western bank of the Chindwin River. The name of the complex means Mountain of Isolated Solitary Meditation.
The International Language & Business Centre (ILBC) is a private school established in May 2, 1995 in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. It has established 26 schools in 8 major cities of the country: Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw, Myitkyina, Taunggyi, Monywa, Lashio, Taungoo and Myeik.
Thant Sin Maung is a Burmese politician and incumbent Minister for Transport and Communications of Myanmar (Burma). On 22 March 2016, he was nominated to be Minister for Transport and Communications in President Htin Kyaw's Cabinet. On 24 March, the Assembly of the Union confirmed his nomination.
Monywa University,, is a co-ed higher education institution located in Monywa, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. The university is officially recognized by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. Courses and programs that lead to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study are offered to local and foreign students. The university provides academic and non-academic facilities as well as services to students such as a library and administrative services.
