Moosa Zameer is incumbent Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives. Earlier,He served as Minister of Tourism of Maldives from 28 October 2015 to 11 November 2019. [1] He served as the chairman of the Social Council of Maldives for the same duration. [2] Moosa Zameer was also a member of the 17th Majlis from 2009 - 2014.
Zameer graduated from the University of Sunderland with a Bachelor of Business Management and Cardiff Metropolitan University with a Master of Business Administration. [3]
Zameer was one of the founders of the now defunct People's Alliance (PA) in 2008,which he served as Vice President and represented in events,etc. He joined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in 2011 which he served as Vice President for and was instrumental in the party's operations. He was an MP of Kinbidhoo in the 17th People's Majlis from 2009 - 2014. He was a member of various committees and was the Minister of Tourism during the tenure of President Yameen from 28 October 2015 - 17 November 2018. [3] [4]
The politics of the Maldives take place in the framework of a presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the President is the Head of Government. The President heads the executive branch and appoints the Cabinet;like many presidential democracies,each member of the cabinet need to be approved by the Parliament. From 1887 to 1965,the country was a British protectorate while retaining full internal sovereignty. At its independence in 1965,the Maldives joined the United Nations on 20 September.
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is a Maldivian politician who served as President of the Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as transport minister,he was nominated president by the People's Majlis and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in 2008 during the first Presidential Elections after democratic reforms in the Maldives. He holds the nations highest award,"The Most Honourable Order of Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee",presented to him in 2013. Maumoon was the longest-serving president in Asia.
Al Ameer Ibrahim Nasir Rannabandeyri Kilegefan,KCMG,NGIV commonly known as Ibrahim Nasir,was a Maldivian politician adhering to the non-aligned ideology and staunch anti-imperialist. Nasir served as the Prime Minister of the Maldives from 1957 to 1968 under the monarchy,and later the first President of the Second Republic of Maldives from 1968 to 1978. Nasir served two terms,then he decided to retire,even though the People's Majlis voted him in for a third term. Nasir is remembered as an independence hero for guiding the Maldives to independence from the British Empire,he is also credited for establishing the tourism industry in the Maldives,as well as rapidly modernizing and developing the country and economy.
Fathulla Jameel was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives from 1978 to 2005.
The Constitution of the Maldives is the supreme law of the country of Maldives. It provides the legal foundation for the existence of the Republic of Maldives,sets out the rights and duties of the citizens of the Maldives,and defines the structure of the Government of the Maldives. The current Constitution of the Maldives was ratified by the then president,Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom,on 7 August 2008,and came into effect immediately,replacing and repealing the Constitution of 1998.
Ahmed Thasmeen Ali,leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party is a Maldivian MP,philanthropist and a businessman. Thasmeen started his career as a civil servant and after venturing into politics he was elected to Peoples Majlis from Baa Atoll and later he served in Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's cabinet and was his running mate in the first multiparty election held in the Maldives in 2008.
The People's Majlis is the unicameral legislative body of Maldives. The Majlis has the authority to enact,amend and revise laws,as outlined in the Constitution of the Maldives. The Majlis is composed of 87 members as of 2019. The number was reduced to 80 as of 18th December 2023 since some former members of the ruling PPM-PNC coalition are appointed to the government's posts. However,the government has appealed this in the Supreme Court on 30th January 2024,and on 5th February 2024,the court ruled in favor of the government,hence reverting the number to 87 members.
Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik is a Maldivian politician who served as president of the Maldives from 7 February 2012 to 17 November 2013,having succeeded to the office following the resignation of President Mohamed Nasheed,under whom he served as Vice President. He had previously worked as a news anchor,a teacher,a principle,a United Nations international civil servant with UNICEF,UNDP and UNESCO,and as member of the Maldivian Parliament.
The People's Alliance was a political party in the Maldives. The party was registered by the Election Commission on 4 August 2008 and was dissolved in 2013.

Ahmed Mahloof is a Maldivian politician who served as the Minister of Youth,Sports,and Community Empowerment. Mahloof is former footballer and manager of the Maldives national football team. He is now a politician who has served as MP for Galolhu-South constituency in the People's Majlis.

Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor is a Maldivian politician who briefly served as Vice President of Maldives in 2015. Prior to his appointment on 22 July 2015,he served as the Minister of Tourism,Arts and Culture.
Dr Mohamed Muizzu is a Maldivian politician who is the 8th and current president of the Maldives since 2023. He previously served as Housing Minister and was the Mayor of Maléfrom 2021 until his resignation in 2023.
