Morris Ogenga Latigo is a Ugandan professor of agriculture, Academic and politician of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who was the leader of opposition in the Ugandan Parliament from 2006 to 2010. [1] [2]

Life and political career

Latigo hails from Northern Uganda. He was elected to the parliament representing the Agago North constituency on the ticket of FDC. From 2006 to 2010, he served as the leader of the opposition in parliament. He left the FDC in 2020 after failing to secure the party's ticket to run for re-election to Agago North constituency seat in the parliament describing the FDC and all other political parties in Unganda as “stinking”. He then declared that he would run for the Agago North Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate. [3]

In January 2019, Latigo was involved in an auto crash while travelling to his home town in Northern Uganda when his vehicle collided with an on-coming bus but survived the crash. [4] [5] This was the fourth time he was involved in motor accident. In October 2009, and in January 2011, Latigo survived fatal accidents along Kampala-Gulu highway. On January 30, 2018, his vehicle rammed into a parked truck in Kakooge, Luwero district along Kampala highway. [6]

Leader of Opposition (Uganda)

In Uganda, the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) is the leader of the largest political party in the Parliament of Uganda that is not in government. The Leader of the Opposition appoints and heads an alternative shadow cabinet whose duty it is to challenge and influence governmental actions and legislation on the floor of Parliament.

Hon Makmot Edward Otto is a Ugandan-Canadian barrister, solicitor, notary public and an Advocate of Uganda Law Society & East African Law Society, lawyer and politician. He served in 10th the elected Member of 10th Parliament for Agago County. He his an independent candidate. He succeeded John Okot Amos, who was preceded by the former Leader of Opposition Professor Ogenga Latigo and Chief Justice Owiny Dollo. He served as the vice chairperson of the Committee on Rules, Privileges And Discipline and a member of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee in the 10th Parliament.

Kassiano Ezati Wadri is a Ugandan social worker and politician. He is the incumbent independent Member of Parliament, representing Arua Municipality in the 10th Parliament, effective 29 August 2018. The seat fell vacant when Ibrahim Abiriga of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), was assassinated in June 2018.

Winifred Kiiza is a Ugandan teacher and politician, who served as the Leader of Opposition in the Ugandan Parliament, from May 2016 until August 2018. She was replaced as Leader of Opposition by Betty Aol Ochan.

Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the incumbent Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda (2022–2026). Acholi people Ethnic group of South Sudan and Northern Uganda

The Acholi people are a Nilotic ethnic group of Luo peoples, found in Magwi County in South Sudan and Northern Uganda, including the districts of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Nwoya, Lamwo, Pader and Omoro District. Approximately 2.1 million Acholi were counted in the Uganda census of 2014, and 45,000 more were living in South Sudan in 2000.

National Unity Platform Ugandan political party

The National Unity Platform, formerly the National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party (NURP), is a social-democratic, social-liberal, and progressive political party in Uganda led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu. The NURP was led by Moses Nkonge Kibalama from December 2004 until July 2020. On 14 July 2020, Kyagulanyi assumed leadership of the party and was declared the party flag-bearer for the January 2021 Ugandan presidential elections.

He was first elected in 2011 to the 9th parliament but failed to secure re-election in 2016. He was re-elected to the parliament in the 2021 general elections.
