Mount Carmel Naval Base officially known as Betzat (formerly Yaschan) is the main logistical base of the Israeli Navy located near the Mount Carmel. It is responsible for all equipment and transport related activities of Israeli Navy.

Location

The base was located in the Kishon camp from its early years, and on July 6 1999, its gradual transfer began to the "Hahotrim" camp south of Mount Carmel , which also the Haifa district headquarters of the Home Front Command.

Role

It allows the navy to fight continuously without shutdowns. The base is responsible for the procurement, maintenance and supply of equipment and materials, on an ongoing basis, and for operational functioning. It is also responsible for material arrangements necessary for Shipbuilding. It also serves in weaponry and ammunition accountancy. Ab Engine workshop of the Israeli Naval Shipyards is also located here and is concerned with ship repairs. [1]

Fleet Band Activities (FBA), formerly the Navy Music Program (NMP), is the central management office for nine active-duty fleet bands of the United States Navy. It is located at Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee. FBA has the responsibility of coordinating the assignment and distribution of personnel, equipment and funding to the worldwide activities of navy military bands. It also is responsible for managing the application and audition process for potential navy musicians. The Israel Fire and Rescue Services is the national Israeli fire and rescue organization. The organisation also provides rescue services from terror attacks, car accident and dangerous substance spillages, along with Magen David Adom, the National EMS. Gilla Gerzon, known to many United States military personnel as the "mother of the 6th fleet," is an Israeli who served as director of the Haifa, Israel USO for almost eighteen years, from the time it opened in December 1984 until it closed in September 2002 when U.S. security concerns for the region led to a sharp decrease in U.S. ship visits. In 1993, she was brought to Somalia to establish a temporary USO for U.S. service personnel deployed in support of Operation Restore Hope.
