The Movimiento Scout del Uruguay (MSU) is the national Scouting organization of Uruguay, and a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Scouting was founded in Uruguay in 1947 and became a member of WOSM in 1950. MSU has 1,549 members (as of 2011). [1]

Scouting or the Scouts The Scout Movement is a voluntary non-political educational movement for young people open to all without distinction of gender, origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and method conceived by the Founder, Baden Powell. The purpose of the Scout Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. During the first half of the twentieth century, the movement grew to encompass three major age groups for boys and, in 1910, a new organization, Girl Guides, was created for girls. It is one of several worldwide youth organizations.

Uruguay republic in South America

Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is a country in the southeastern region of South America. It borders Argentina to its west and Brazil to its north and east, with the Río de la Plata to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. Uruguay is home to an estimated 3.44 million people, of whom 1.8 million live in the metropolitan area of its capital and largest city, Montevideo. With an area of approximately 176,000 square kilometers (68,000 sq mi), Uruguay is geographically the second-smallest nation in South America, after Suriname.

World Organization of the Scout Movement international Scouting organization

The World Organization of the Scout Movement is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 170 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have over 50 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Asociación Scouts del Uruguay (ASU, Scout Association of Uruguay) and Asociación de Scouts Católicos del Uruguay (ASCU, Catholic Scouts of Uruguay) merged to form the Movimento Scout del Uruguay in 1994.

Program

Scouts are active in community service and step in to help the government in times of disaster or special need.

The Asociación Guías Scout del Uruguay is the national Guiding organization of Uruguay. It serves 71 members. Founded in 1955, the coeducational organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1966; the membership was revoked in 2014.

The Asociación de Scouts de Bolivia (ASB) is the national Scouting association of Bolivia. Scouting was founded in Bolivia in 1911 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1950. ASB has 7,898 members.

Association of Scouts of Honduras

The Association of Scouts of Honduras (ASH) is the national Scouting organization of Honduras. Scouting was founded in that Central American country in 1952 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1957. There were 3,031 members as of 2008.

Asociación de Scouts de Guatemala

The Asociación de Scouts de Guatemala is the national Scouting organization of Guatemala. Scouting was founded in Guatemala in 1920 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1930. The association has 6,020 members.

The Asociación de Guías y Scouts de Costa Rica is the national Scouting and Guiding association of Costa Rica. Recognition was withdrawn in 1936. Panama regained its WOSM membership in 1950. Panamanian Scouting is coeducational, serving both boys and girls.

The Federación Española de Guidismo is a federation of several Spanish Guiding organizations, serving about 1,500 members. It is a member of the Comité de Enlace del Guidismo en España and thus affiliated to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
