Scouting in Aruba shared a common history with the other Netherlands Antilles until the political separation of the island from the Netherlands. Scouting Aruba is a Full Member of the Interamerican Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

Contents

Scouting Aruba consists of 13 groups, divided into 3 districts. There is one Scout group for people with mental and physical limitations. Scouting Aruba has 456 members as of 2021. [1]

Scouts in Aruba participate in many Caribbean camps, often traveling by boat to camp on nearby islands with Scouts from neighboring countries.

On 27 February 2016, the World Scout Committee recognized Scouting Aruba as the National Scout Organization of the Aruba and conferred it with Full WOSM Membership with voting rights. [2] The membership certificate was presented to the organization in the 41st World Scout Conference, which was conducted in Baku of Azerbaijan in 2017.

Program and ideals

The Scout Motto is Be Prepared, Semper Prepara in Papiamento, and Weest Paraat in Dutch.

The Scouting Aruba emblem consists of Scouting symbols and colors corresponding with the flag of Aruba. The two five-point stars are taken off the Fleur-de-lis and placed upon each other. The logo is designed by Mr. Juan Martijn. [3]

Papiamento is also a recognised language in the Dutch public bodies of Sint-Eustatius and Saba.

An anthem without a title was the untitled anthem of the Netherlands Antilles. It was written in English by Zahira Hiliman from Sint Maarten and translated into the Papiamento language by Lucille Berry-Haseth from Curaçao. The anthem was written in two of the three official languages of the Netherlands Antilles, English and Papiamento. It was adopted in 2000. In addition to this one, many of the islands in the Netherlands Antilles had their own regional anthems.

Papiamento has two standardised orthographies, one used on the island of Aruba and the other on the islands of Curaçao and Bonaire. The Aruban orthography is more etymological in nature, while the other is more phonemic. Among the differences between the two standards, one obvious difference is the way the name of the language is written. In Aruba it is written Papiamento, while in Curaçao and Bonaire it is written Papiamentu. The governments of Curaçao and Aruba formally standardised orthographic rules in 1976 and 1977, respectively.

Raden Mas Noto Soeroto (1888-1951) was a Javanese prince from the Jogjakarta noble house of Paku Alaman was a poet and writer of Dutch Indies literature and journalist from the Dutch East Indies. In the Netherlands, the Vlag en Wimpel award is an honourable mention awarded by either the jury of the Gouden Griffel and Zilveren Griffel awards or the jury of the Gouden Penseel and Zilveren Penseel awards. Action 21 is an Aruban political party in the centre with its ideology based in liberalism and progressivism. The party's name is derived from its desire to be the party of the 21st century, as well as the fact it contests the 21 seats of the Parliament of Aruba and its first electoral participation was 25 June 2021.

The second Wever-Croes cabinet is the current cabinet of Aruba. It was installed on 20 September 2021 by Deputy Governor Yvonne Laclé-Dirksz. The cabinet is formed by a coalition government of the center-left political parties People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and RAIZ, and is led by Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes.

Juan Edberto"Ady"Thijsen is an Aruban politician. He has served as Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba since 2022 and Permanent Representative of Aruba to the European Union since December 2021. He had been Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary from 2021. Thijsen was member of the Parliament of Aruba for the People's Electoral Movement between 2005 and 2021, and served as its President between 2017 and 2021.
