Movisport is a rally team and marketing agency based in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The rally team, Scuderia Campione Movisport competes in the Italian national championship, the European Rally Championship and the World Rally Championship (WRC), and in 2021, won the Teams championship title of the support series, WRC2. [1] [2] The marketing agency provides advertising and promotion services linking brands with racing drivers and teams. The rally team's accomplishments therefore include those of the drivers and teams the marketing agency has worked with. [3]

History

The team was founded in 1999 by Italian Zelindo Melegari primarily for his own rally driving purposes but other drivers were soon to join him in the team. Giandomenico Basso was driving for Movisport as early as 2001 on occasion and, as an agency partner in 2006, he won both the European Rally Championship and Intercontinental Rally Challenge, followed up in 2009 with another ERC win and the Italian National championship in 2016. In 2018 Nikolay Gryazin won ERC Junior title whilst a partner of the agency but never entered in a rally by the team. [6] [4] In 2020, Movisport claimed to be the Italian Rally Champions winning team for the sixth year in a row, although it's not clear from results what and how they achieved this. [4]

WRC2

Their WRC2 Teams' Championship win in 2021 was a result of direct entries under the Movisport name, utilising the services of drivers Nikolay Gryazin, Esapekka Lappi, Teemu Suninen, Erik Cais and Enrico Brazzoli. Not loyal to any one manufacturer, the team used four models from three makes across the season: Škoda Fabia R5, Škoda Fabia Rally2 evo, Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 and Ford Fiesta Rally2. The WRC2 rules in 2021 insisted drivers must be entered by a team. In reality Gryazin owns and ran his own Volkswagen Polo, and Cais' team provided their Fiesta, obscuring the distinction between Movisport being the entrant or an entry vehicle for independent runners. [7] [8] Although operating in a different fashion, Movisport beat manufacturer teams from M-Sport and Hyundai, and also the reigning champions Toksport.

WRC2 is limited to production-based cars homologated under Group Rally2 rules. There are separate specific championship titles awarded to Teams, Drivers and Co-Drivers.

In 2024, he won his second ever event in Rally Sweden, which broke the record for the longest gap between wins in terms of time and number of rallies, with his debut win coming from his home event in 2017 Rally Finland.

The Ford Fiesta R5 is a rally car built by M-Sport and based upon the Ford Fiesta ST road car. It was the first car homologated under the R5 regulations that were introduced in 2013. The Fiesta R5 made its competitive début in 2013 and has competed in the World Rally Championship-2, European Rally Championship and various national competitions since then. An updated model known as the Fiesta R5 Mk. II was unveiled in 2019. Starting in 2019, M-Sport Ford WRT will enter factory-supported Fiesta R5s and Fiesta R5 Mk. The Škoda Fabia R5 is a rally car built by Škoda Motorsport. It is based upon the Škoda Fabia road car and is built to R5 regulations. It made its competition début in 2015 as a successor to the Škoda Fabia S2000. The car proved to be very successful in the World Rally Championship-2 class, winning thirty-five events between 2015 and 2018. Esapekka Lappi won the 2016 World Rally Championship-2 drivers title with four victories, Pontus Tidemand won the 2017 championship and Jan Kopecký won the 2018 championship. Škoda Motorsport won the FIA World Rally Championship-2 for Teams in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Starting in 2019, Škoda Motorsport entered the Fabia R5 in the professional class of the World Rally Championship-2. An updated version of the Fabia R5 known as the Škoda Fabia R5 Evo was introduced during the 2019 season. The car was originally launched with the R5 group nomenclature, but in early 2020, Škoda Motorsport announced the update of their car names according to the new FIA pyramid, renaming successor, the Fabia R5 evo as the Fabia Rally2 evo.

The 2019 Rally de Portugal was a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over four days between 30 May and 2 June 2019. It marked the fifty-third running of Rally de Portugal, and was the seventh round of the 2019 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and the newly-created WRC-2 Pro class. The rally was also part of the Portuguese national championship and Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica. The 2019 event was based in Matosinhos in Porto and consisted of twenty special stages totalling 311.47 km (193.54 mi) competitive kilometres.

The Škoda Fabia Rally2 evo is a rally car built by Škoda Motorsport. It is an upgraded generational update of the original Fabia R5, based on the facelifted Škoda Fabia production car. After four years of success in the R5 discipline with the original Fabia, Škoda announced the Fabia R5 evo at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019. The car was showcased as an improvement over the 2015 Fabia in nearly all areas, most notably the power and response of the engine. After many kilometers of testing, The Evo passed international homologation on the 1st of April 2019, and made its competitive rallying debut in the hands of Jan Kopecký at the third round of the Czech Rally Championship, Rallye Český Krumlov. The car would make a successful first impression, winning the rally overall. Soon after it would make its World Rally Championship debut at Rally de Portugal, where it would once again emerge victorious in the hands of Kalle Rovanperä.

Efrén Llarena is a Spanish rally driver born 26 May 1995 in Espinosa de los Monteros, Burgos, Castilla y León. In 2021 he finished runner up in the European Rally Championship behind Andreas Mikkelsen whilst driving his long term co-driver Sara Fernández to the co-driver's championship title. The following year in 2022, Llarena won the European Rally Championship, securing the title with two rounds remaining in the championship.

RedGrey Team is a rally team based in Kurna, Estonia, established in 2020 by former rally driver Markko Märtin and the 2019 World Rally Champion, Ott Tänak. The team replaced an older team established in December 2005, MM-Motorsport, following Tänak's investment in Märtin's company that formed the team. The team rarely enters motorsport competition itself, principally offering rally cars for rent and associated operational services to customers, such as Hyundai Motorsport.
