Simphiwe Sihawu (born 2000 [1] ) better known as Mr Thela, is a South African DJ and music producer. Born in Gugulethu and raised in Samora Machel, Philippi, his professional musical career began in 2016 at the age of 16. [1] Aside from his solo career, Sihawu was a member of Mshayi & Mr Thela duo. Their debut studio album Make Cape Town Great Again (2020), became their best-selling album, certified Platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). [3]

His second studio album Tronics Land Series 2, was released on 17 November 2023. [4] The album debuted No. 3 on Apple Music and No. 5 on Spotify South Africa Charts respectively. [5] [6]

In February 2024, Mr Thela signed a recording deal with Universal Music Group. [7]

Mr Thela's musical styles encompass gqom, sgubhu and a genre of his own creation alongside Mshayi ,gospel gqom (Cape Town gqom). [8]

Christian electronic dance music, also known as CEDM, Christian EDM, Christian dance music, CDM, or Christian electronic music is a genre of electronic dance music and Christian music. His 2012 Single "Facebook" earned him three awards at 18th SAMA. His eleventh album Eskhaleni 11 (2019), which include single "Yile Gqom" and Yile Piano, Vol. 1 (2019).

Gqom, gqom tech, sgubhu, 3-Step or G.Q.O.M) is an African electronic dance music genre and subgenre of house music, that emerged in the early 2010s from Durban, South Africa, pioneered and innovated by music producers Naked Boyz, Rudeboyz, Sbucardo, Griffit Vigo, Nasty Boyz, DJ Lag, Menzi Shabane, Distruction Boyz and Citizen Boy.

Thuthuka Wandile Zindlovu, prominently known as Dlala Thukzin is a South African DJ and record producer born and bred in Lamontville, KwaZulu-Natal. He is famous for his versatility of blending amapiano and afro tech with gqom.

Afro tech, is a sub-genre of house music and afro house which originates and is predominantly made in South Africa. It emerged in the 2010s. Marvin Ramalepe, widely known as DJ Spoko was a South African record producer and DJ. He gained fame for co-producing DJ Mujava's, "Township Funk" as well as his pioneering work in bacardi house.
