Mudgal Committee is a four-member committee, headed by former High Court judge Mukul Mudgal and comprising the then Additional Solicitor General of India L. Nageswara Rao and senior advocate and former cricket umpire Nilay Dutta to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations of corruption against BCCI chief N. Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, India Cements, and Rajasthan Royals team owner Jaipur IPS Cricket Private Ltd, as well as with the larger mandate of investigating allegations having to do with betting and spot-fixing in 2013 Indian Premier League matches and the involvement of players. Allegations of Spot Fixing and Match Fixing against players

The committee noted that the allegations of spot fixing and matching fixing by S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila, Amit Singh and Siddharth Trivedi (Rajasthan Royals) on the basis of evidence provided by the Delhi Police were facing criminal trials and that adequate punishment had been imposed on them by the BCCI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself in the middle of many conflicts with various cricket boards around the world as a result of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The main point of contention was that signed players should always be available to their country for international tours, even if it overlaps with the IPL season. To address this, the BCCI officially requested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) to institute a time period in the International Future Tours Programme (FTP), solely for the IPL season. This request was not granted at a subsequent meeting held by the ICC. But since July 2022, ICC FTP granted dedicated 2.5 months window for IPL, during which nearly no international cricket will takes place. IPL is the only cricket league in the world which got dedicated place in ICC FTP.

The 2014 season of the Indian Premier League, abbreviated as IPL 7 or Pepsi IPL 2014, was the seventh season of the IPL, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament featured eight teams, one fewer than in 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India, and was held from 16 April 2014 to 1 June 2014. The opening ceremony was held in the UAE on 15 April 2014. The 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing and betting case arose when the Delhi Police arrested three cricketers, Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, on the charges of alleged spot-fixing. The three represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 Indian Premier League. In a separate case, Mumbai Police arrested Vindu Dara Singh, Priyank Sepany and Chennai Super Kings Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan for alleged betting.

The 2013 Indian Premier League Final was a day/night Twenty20 cricket match played between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians on 26 May 2013 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata to determine the winners of the 2013 Indian Premier League, the sixth annual season of the professional Twenty20 cricket tournament in India. Gurunath Meiyappan is a member of the AVM family and is the son-in-law of industrialist, former president of the BCCI, and former chairman of the ICC, N. Srinivasan. He was the "team principal" of the IPL cricket franchise, Chennai Super Kings and was implicated in the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing and betting case. An inquiry committee headed by former Chief Justice RM Lodha found both Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner, Raj Kundra, guilty of bringing the game of cricket into disrepute and banned them for life.

Nilayananda Dutta was a senior lawyer, cricket administrator, and Indian cricket umpire. He stood in one ODI game in 1990. He was a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India and an official of the Assam Cricket Association. He was a member of the three member Mudgal Committee formed to probe the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing and betting case.

Justice Mukul Mudgal is a retired Indian judge of Delhi High Court, and remained Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from 2009 to 2011. He is currently the head of the FIFA Governance Committee and Review Committee.

Lavu Nageswara Rao is a former Judge of Supreme Court of India. He is the 7th person elevated directly from the bar to the Supreme Court and was sworn in on May 13, 2016. He was a Senior advocate and a former Additional Solicitor General of India.

Vinay Chandra Maudgalya(1918 - 1995) was an Indian classical musician, vocalist and the founder of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, a music and dance academy for the promotion of Hindustani music and Indian classical dances. He was a follower of Gwalior gharana. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1984.

The Lodha Committee was appointed by the Supreme Court of India on 22 January 2015 to analyse and recommend implementable actions for improving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), assess the quantum of punishment for Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scandal, and analyse the role of Sundar Raman. The Lodha Committee report was submitted on 14 July 2015.

Rupa Gurunath is the former president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). She was the first woman to hold the office. She is also a 'whole time' director of India Cements Limited.
